Job summary

Republic Services in San Antonio, TX is seeking a Heavy Equipment Mechanic to perform repairs and preventive maintenance on heavy equipment, compact heavy equipment, light service equipment, and light trucks. You will diagnose mechanical problems, service diesel and gasoline engines, and ensure safe, productive operations across fleets.

The role requires ASE certifications, at least 1 year of heavy equipment experience, and knowledge of Tier 4 emissions.

Qualifications

• ASE Certification evidences advanced knowledge in air brakes, tires, hydraulics, electrical, drive train.
• Minimum 1 year experience as a technician working on heavy equipment.
• Trade school certificate or degree in mechanical trades.
• Certificate in electrical diagnostics.
• OSHA Haz Com, Lock Out Tag Out familiarity.
• Experience with Tier 4 emission systems is preferred.
• Welding and/or fabrication skills a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform repairs and preventative maintenance on heavy equipment and related vehicles to maximize safe operations.
• Read and interpret equipment condition reports and discuss defects with supervisor and operators.
• Document parts usage and times on work orders; input data into Fleet Management Software (Dossier).
• Complete daily consumables reports including fuel and oil usage.
• Follow all safety policies and procedures and maintain a safe work environment.
• Perform engine overhauls and service on gas/diesel engines.

Typical repairs include, but are not limited to, preventative maintenance inspections, hydraulic, fuel, exhaust, brakes, suspension, electrical, HVAC, and emission systems. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:* Maintains advanced knowledge to diagnose and repair mechanical problems on heavy equipment.* Performs repair or preventative maintenance on electrical, diesel and gasoline vehicles, including compactor, excavator, wheel loader, and other vehicles to maximize safe and productive operations.
