McLain Site Solutions is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment & Fleet Mechanic to maintain and repair equipment, trucks, and trailers supporting site development and earthwork projects. Qualifications

  • Must independently diagnose and repair diesel construction equipment and fleet vehicles.
  • Strong hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical troubleshooting skills beyond routine maintenance.
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, manuals and service information.
  • Experience with Cat and other fleet brands represented in our fleet.
  • Experience with electronic diagnostic tools and fault-code analysis.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel between shop and jobsites.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic problems on heavy equipment, trucks, and trailers.
  • Troubleshoot diesel and gasoline engines, fuel systems, cooling systems, transmissions, drivetrains, steering, brakes, and suspension.
  • Diagnose hydraulic problems using testing procedures; repair or replace hoses, cylinders, pumps and seals.
  • Troubleshoot wiring, sensors, charging and starting systems using diagnostic tools and manuals.
  • Diagnose and service diesel emissions and aftertreatment systems where equipped.
  • Inspect and repair tracks, undercarriages, attachments, and wear items.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance based on manufacturer requirements and equipment condition.
  • Service trailer brakes, bearings, lights, tires, couplers, and hydraulic systems where equipped.
  • Report downtime, availability, and repair needs to operations; coordinate parts and warranty work.

Job description

McLain Site Solutions is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment & Fleet Mechanic to maintain and repair the equipment, trucks, and trailers that support our site development, earthwork, and underground utility projects.

We need someone who can troubleshoot problems, complete dependable repairs, and keep preventive maintenance on schedule. This position requires hands-on experience with construction equipment and the ability to work independently in the shop and at active jobsites.

Equipment & Fleet

Our fleet includes, but is not limited to:

  • Caterpillar: Excavators, dozers, wheel loaders, motor graders, rollers, and off-road dump trucks.

  • John Deere: Dozers and motor graders

  • Komatsu: Dozers, excavators, and wheel loaders

  • Trucks and trailers: Chevrolet 1500, 2500, and 3500 trucks; Ford F-250 and F-600 trucks; Chevrolet SUVs; Peterbilt tractor; and Eager Beaver

The fleet includes company-owned and rented vehicles and may change as project needs change.

Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic problems on heavy equipment, trucks, and trailers.

  • Troubleshoot diesel and gasoline engines, fuel systems, cooling systems, transmissions, drivetrains, steering, brakes, and suspension.

  • Diagnose hydraulic problems using appropriate testing procedures, including pressure and flow testing. Repair or replace hoses, cylinders, pumps, valves, seals, and related components.

  • Troubleshoot wiring, sensors, charging and starting systems, electronic controls, and fault codes using diagnostic software, scan tools, meters, and service manuals.

  • Diagnose and service diesel emissions and aftertreatment systems, including DPF, DEF, and SCR systems, where equipped.

  • Inspect and repair tracks, undercarriages, attachments, loader and excavator components, and other wear items.

  • Perform scheduled maintenance based on manufacturer requirements, mileage, operating hours, and equipment condition.

  • Service trailer brakes, bearings, lights, wiring, tires, couplers, and hydraulic systems, where equipped.

  • Respond to equipment breakdowns in the field and communicate repair needs, expected downtime, and equipment availability to operations.

  • Identify needed parts and coordinate approved purchases, dealer support, warranty work, and outside repairs.

  • Coordinate service for rented vehicles and equipment with the rental provider and management before performing repairs requiring authorization.

  • Maintain accurate service records by asset number, including hours or mileage, diagnosis, work performed, parts used, and outstanding issues.

  • Follow safe lifting, blocking, lockout, and repair procedures. Identify unsafe equipment and communicate when it must remain out of service.

Required Qualifications
  • Proven experience independently diagnosing and repairing diesel construction equipment and fleet vehicles.

  • Substantial hands-on experience with CAT equipment, plus experience servicing other construction equipment brands represented in our fleet.

  • Strong hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical troubleshooting skills. Experience must extend beyond oil changes and routine maintenance.

  • Ability to read wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, technical manuals, and manufacturer service information.

  • Experience using electronic diagnostic tools and identifying the cause of a failure before replacing components.

  • Working knowledge of truck and trailer maintenance and repair.

  • Ability to prioritize repairs, communicate clearly with operators and supervisors, and follow work through to completion.

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between the shop and project locations.

  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position in shop and outdoor construction environments, with reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Five or more years of relevant heavy equipment and fleet repair experience.

  • Experience with manufacturer diagnostic platforms, including Cat Electronic Technician (ET).

  • Experience with Chevrolet/GM and Ford truck diagnostics and heavy-duty truck systems.

  • Experience with air brakes, equipment transport trailers, welding, and fabrication.

  • Familiarity with equipment fitted with Trimble or other grade-control systems, including diagnosing related power, wiring, and connection issues.

  • CDL and relevant diesel, automotive, or manufacturer training and certifications.
