Job summary

McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. is seeking a Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our Solutions Center team. The role supports yard and job-site maintenance for a variety of construction equipment, with travel as needed to field sites.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years of hands-on experience with heavy equipment, a strong knowledge of electrical and hydraulic systems, and the ability to work safely in fast-paced environments. We offer comprehensive benefits and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years’ experience with a large construction company as a heavy equipment mechanic.
  • Thorough knowledge of equipment and safety processes used in commercial, civil and/or marine construction.
  • Knowledge of equipment maintenance, storage, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Necessary tools to perform the work assigned.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic systems and troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to weld and fabricate preferred.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting (50 pounds).

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair electrical, hydraulic, tracks, diesel engines and transmissions on construction equipment and cranes.
  • Maintain a safe shop work environment.
  • Communicate equipment issues with supervisor to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Operate heavy equipment on site safely and efficiently.
  • Check daily that equipment functions properly and safely.
  • Ensure equipment is safely stored when not in use.
  • Order needed parts from vendors when necessary.

Responsibilities
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair including but not limited to electrical, hydraulic, tracks, diesel engines and transmissions for a variety of construction equipment and crane types
  • Maintain a safe shop work environment
  • Effectively communicate equipment issues with supervisor to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Operate/maneuver heavy equipment on site in a safe and effective manner
  • Check daily to ensure equipment functions properly and in a safe manner
  • Ensure equipment is safely and securely stored when not in use.
  • Accurately order needed parts from vendors when necessary

Operate and test equipment after repair

Qualifications
  • 5+ years’ experience with a large construction company as a heavy equipment mechanic

  • Knowledge of equipment maintenance, storage, schematics, and diagrams

  • Ability to weld and fabricate preferred
  • Ability to complete daily activities according to work schedule
  • Must have valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency
  • Abilityto performheavy lifting/pushing/pulling of materialweighing 50 pounds
  • Ability to squat, crawl, and work in confined spaces
  • Exhibit strong work ethic, teamwork, customer service, verbal, and written skills
  • Age 18+
  • Proof of Identity and Employment Authorization
  • TWIC credentials and CDL preferred
