JOB DESCRIPTION

An expert-level technician specializing in the maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of diesel engines and related systems. Responsible for performing complex mechanical, electrical, and electronic troubleshooting on heavy-duty diesel vehicles and equipment. Provides guidance and mentorship to junior technicians, ensures compliance with safety and environmental regulations, and maintains detailed service records. Often works independently or as a lead on service teams to ensure optimal performance and reliability of diesel-powered machinery.

Responsible for performing complex mechanical, electrical, and electronic troubleshooting on heavy-duty diesel vehicles and equipment. Provides guidance and mentorship to junior technicians, ensures compliance with safety and environmental regulations, and maintains detailed service records. Often works independently or as a lead on service teams to ensure optimal performance and reliability of diesel-powered machinery.

Essential Functions
  • Advanced knowledge to diagnose and repair diesel engines and related equipment including air systems, oil analysis, cooling system
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills
  • Troubleshooting of fuel system including ability to perform diagnostic test with manufacturer software
  • Test & adjust all of the following hydraulic and hydrostatic systems
  • Perform troubleshooting & diagnosing circuit faults
  • Basic troubleshooting for entire fuel system
  • Disassemble & assemble pumps & lines for the fuel system.
  • Ability to properly troubleshoot Tier 4 Systems
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Perform routine maintenance on diesel equipment, including oil changes, filter replacements, and fluid checks
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical problems
  • Inspect diesel equipment and related equipment for safety and compliance issues
  • Keep up-to-date on the latest diesel equipment technology
  • Work independently and as part of a team
  • Follow all safety procedures and regulations

  • Technical Expertise -Solid mechanical understanding of mobile equipment, including basic maintenance checks and troubleshooting minor issues. Ability to identify signs of equipment malfunction, understand and report them to the maintenance team.
Education
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Previous experience working on diesel or heavy construction equipment is required.
  • Additional vocational/trade school training in a mechanical field is required.
Experience
  • Able to perform all functions on Vulcan's equipment management software.
  • Previous experience working on diesel or heavy construction equipment is required.
  • Previous experience and understanding of electrical, powertrain and hydraulic knowledge, usage of CAT SIS, Vulcan EMS processes and my Komatsu.
  • Knowledge of general principles and practices of servicing heavy construction equipment required.
  • Related equipment knowledge on engines, hydraulics, electronics, Tier 4 Systems and fuel systems.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Knowledge of general principles and practices of servicing heavy construction equipment is preferred.
  • Must have some knowledge of industrial tools, their uses, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of general principles and practices of servicing heavy construction equipment is preferred.

Other Requirements
  • Must be willing to work overtime and extended hours depending on customer and company demands.
  • Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noises.
  • Perform physical activities that require moving your whole body and considerable use of your arms and legs, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.
  • Must have knowledge of industrial tools, their uses and maintenance.
  • Travel will be required overnight as business demands.
  • Take an active role in prioritizing safety for yourself and others throughout the operation at all times.
  • Must have and maintain valid driver's license.
