ADP, Inc. is seeking a Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic in North Charleston, SC.

The role involves maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing diesel-powered machines both in a shop and on-site locations. You will work with bulldozers, excavators, graders, loaders and backhoes, applying diesel, hydraulic, and electrical know-how to keep equipment running.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience as a diesel mechanic working on heavy equipment.
  • Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, powertrains, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools.
  • Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled maintenance, inspections, and repairs on heavy-duty diesel equipment in a shop setting and out in the field.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
  • Use diagnostic tools and OEM software to identify system faults and error codes.
  • Disassemble and reassemble equipment components using technical manuals and specifications.
  • Test and adjust repaired systems to manufacturer performance standards.
  • Maintain accurate service records and complete work orders and reports.
  • Ensure adherence to all safety protocols and environmental regulations.
  • Keep work area clean and organized and tools in good working condition.

Salary Range: $32.00 To $40.00 Hourly

About the Role:

The Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic is primarily responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing diesel-powered heavy machinery in both a shop setting and out in the field. This role involves working with equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, graders, wheel loaders, and backhoes. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of diesel systems, hydraulics, and the mechanical/electrical aspects of heavy equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform scheduled maintenance, inspections, and repairs on heavy-duty diesel equipment in a shop setting and out in the field.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
  • Use diagnostic tools and OEM software to identify system faults and error codes.
  • Disassemble and reassemble equipment components using technical manuals and specifications.
  • Test and adjust repaired systems to manufacturer performance standards.
  • Maintain accurate service records and complete work orders and reports.
  • Ensure adherence to all safety protocols and environmental regulations.
  • Keep work are clean and organized and tools in good working condition.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, operators, and parts departments regarding job status and equipment needs.
Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of experience as a diesel mechanic working on heavy equipment.
  • Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, powertrains, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools.
  • Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Valid driver's license required; CDL and/or heavy equipment operation experience is a plus.
  • OEM training certifications (e.g., Caterpillar, Komatsu, John Deere) preferred.
