Job summary

Caterpillar South Milwaukee is hiring experienced Heavy Equipment Assembly Specialists for the 2nd shift in South Milwaukee, WI. The team builds some of the largest mining machines, including ERS products, with a focus on precision assembly and safety.

Benefits include a $2,000 Sign-On & Retention Bonus and a clear pay progression. 2nd shift adds a $1.00/hr premium, and starting steps range from $29.69 to $32.15 per hour.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of heavy equipment assembly experience.
• Proficiency with hand tools such as thread dies, drills, saws, screwdrivers, pipe wrenches, chisels.
• Experience using cranes, hoists, and layout tools.
• Familiarity with steel, tubing, fittings, grease, oil, and hydraulic components.
• Working knowledge of high-, medium-, and low-pressure hydraulic and automated lube systems.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and micrometers.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, layout, align, and assemble parts, sub-assemblies, and complete machines.
• Use hand and power tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and measuring devices for high-precision assembly.
• Position and align components using jib, overhead cranes, hoists, and jacks.
• Install power units and accessories, fit keys and splines, and perform press/shrink fits.
• Conduct functional tests and adjustments, disassemble and prepare machines for shipment or storage.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow safety protocols.
