Job description

Overview

The Civil Construction Surveyor is responsible for performing field surveys, layout, and measurements to support construction projects. This role ensures all work is completed in accordance with engineering plans, project specifications, and regulatory requirements. The Surveyor works closely with project managers, engineers, and field crews to maintain accuracy and efficiency throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities
  • Perform construction staking and layout for roads, utilities, structures, and site development
  • Interpret and work from engineering drawings, plans, and specifications
  • Operate surveying equipment such as GPS, total stations, and data collectors
  • Verify elevations, grades, and alignments throughout all phases of construction
  • Conduct as-built surveys and maintain accurate records of field data
  • Ensure compliance with project plans, tolerances, and safety standards
  • Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, and subcontractors
  • Identify and report discrepancies between field conditions and plans
  • Maintain and calibrate survey equipment
  • Assist with quantity tracking and progress measurements as needed
Qualifications
  • Previous experience in construction surveying (typically 2–5+ years preferred)
  • Proficiency with surveying equipment (GPS, robotic total stations, levels)
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and blueprints
  • Knowledge of civil construction methods and site development
  • Experience with survey software (Trimble, Topcon, Bluebeam, etc.) preferred
  • Strong math and problem‑solving skills
  • Valid driver’s license
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Ability to walk long distances over uneven terrain
  • Capable of lifting and carrying survey equipment (up to 50 lbs)
