Job summary

Independence Excavating, Inc. seeks an experienced Heavy Civil Project Manager to oversee budgets, schedules, submittals, RFIs and contracts on major projects.

You will interact professionally with owners and coordinate with the Senior Project Manager and field teams to protect profitability. Ideal candidates have at least 5 years’ experience in large commercial construction, strong leadership, and the ability to manage multiple sites while maintaining quality and safety standards.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required; Associates or Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.
• At least 5 years’ experience managing large commercial construction projects.
• Strong organizational skills to handle diverse tasks.
• Ability to build positive relationships with owners, project engineers and local government offices.
• Proven ability to manage people, budget, schedule and quality across multiple sites.
• Competent in complete and accurate project take-offs and estimates.
• Willing and able to travel up to 25%.

Responsibilities

• Preparing, reviewing, and returning submittals for items to be manufactured or provided.
• Working with Superintendent/Operation Manager to determine equipment and crew needs.
• Assembling job cost codes and regularly updating them.
• Coordinating subcontractors and material deliveries on major items.
• Reviewing and approving subcontractor/supplier estimates and invoices.
• Negotiating, closing, and coordinating Extra Work Orders and COR’s for changes in project scope.
• Monitoring production, resource utilization and overall job cost vs. estimated cost to maintain profit margin.
• Preparing monthly job cost/profit projections.

Independence Excavating is looking for an accomplished and ambitious Project Manager to join our growing team. As a Project Manager, you will manage all aspects of the assigned project, including budgets, schedules, submittals, RFI’s, contracts, purchase orders as well as being comfortable and professional with owner interaction. This position will report to the Senior Project Manager.

A Typical Day Looks Like

• Preparing, reviewing, and returning submittals for items to be manufactured or provided
