Job summary

E-Z Bel Construction, LLC is seeking an experienced excavator operator for outdoor civil construction projects in Texas. You will review cut sheets and grade stakes, trench to spec, and manage moisture for targeted compaction, working with spotters and a foreman to keep operations safe and efficient.

The role requires 2–5 years of excavator experience, OSHA trenching knowledge, and the ability to interpret survey layouts.

• Thorough knowledge of OSHA trenching and excavation safety.

Responsibilities

• Operate excavators with various attachments to achieve precise elevations.
• Apply OSHA trenching, shoring, and sloping practices based on soil conditions.
• Conduct daily equipment inspections and report mechanical concerns promptly.
• Load haul trucks efficiently and coordinate dig sequences with the crew.

What a Day Looks LikeYou arrive at the jobsite, review cut sheets with the Foreman, and walk the excavation limits. Grade stakes and bluetops confirm your targets. By mid‑morning, you’re trenching to spec, shaping slopes in accordance with soil classification, and placing OSHA‑compliant protection. You swap buckets for a compaction wheel, condition the subgrade with lime or cement as directed, and manage moisture so compaction crews can hit density. After lunch, you’re loading trucks evenly and within capacity, potholing to verify utilities, and communicating with your spotter as traffic moves nearby. Before day’s end, you rig and signal a structure set, complete equipment inspections, and submit production totals—footage, loads, and completions—so tomorrow’s plan is locked in.Role ImpactExecute trenching, grading, backfilling, and material loading per plans, grade stakes, flow lines, and engineered cut sheets.Operate excavators of various sizes and attachments (buckets, compaction wheels, hydraulic hammers, lifting rigs) to achieve precise elevations.Install bedding, blend lime/cement into subgrade, and manage soil moisture to support target compaction.Apply OSHA-compliant trenching, shoring, and sloping practices based on soil conditions.Conduct daily equipment inspections, complete checklists, and report mechanical concerns promptly.Work safely around utilities using potholing protocols, locator marks, and spotter direction.Load haul trucks efficiently, evenly, and within allowable weights.Rig and assist with lifting operations, using proper signaling and clear communication.Coordinate with the Foreman, Truck Drivers, and crew on dig sequences and haul routes.Maintain clean trenches and orderly work zones that protect crews and the traveling public.Document daily output: loads, excavation footage, and completion notes.Follow PPE requirements, lockout/tagout, confined space, and overhead line procedures.Support traffic control and flagging activities to keep workers and motorists safe.Carry out other duties as assigned.What You Bring2–5 years operating excavators in civil construction, utilities, or site development.Ability to interpret grade stakes, cut sheets, bluetops, flow lines, and survey layouts.Thorough knowledge of OSHA trenching and excavation safety.Proficiency with multiple attachments and fine‑grading/precision tasks.Strong grasp of soil classification, moisture conditioning, and compaction principles.Experience with rigging, signaling, and safe lifting practices preferred.Reliability in meeting production goals while caring for people and equipment.Physical & Work EnvironmentOutdoor work year‑round in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, harsh environments). Extended sitting while operating equipment; routine standing, bending, and kneeling. Regularly lift/carry up to 50 lbs.; occasionally up to 100 lbs. with assistance for tools, materials, or attachments.
