Job summary

SPG is seeking a Heavy Civil Estimator to support its estimating and preconstruction team in Burlington, WA. The role focuses on pricing for heavy civil projects across transportation, utilities, and public works, with involvement in takeoffs, budgeting, and bid development.

The ideal candidate has experience in heavy civil environments, understands road, bridge, and utility construction, and can coordinate with project teams and suppliers. On-site work in Washington State is required.

Responsibilities

Location: Burlington, WA | Schedule: Full-time, on-site

Overview

A well-established heavy civil contractor with a strong track record delivering complex public and private infrastructure projects across Washington State is seeking a Heavy Civil Estimator to support its estimating and preconstruction team. The company continues to expand its work across transportation, utilities, site development, and public works construction, and this role plays a key part in pricing and winning that work. This is a strong fit for both experienced estimators and heavy civil project professionals who understand how these projects are built and want to move further into estimating, including those with exposure to quantity tracking, budgeting, procurement, or project controls.

What you'll do

• Review plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and contract documents
• Develop quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects, which may include heavy highway construction, airport infrastructure, bridges and structural concrete, roadway improvements, grading, excavation and mass earthwork, underground utility installation, water/sewer/stormwater/drainage systems, pump stations and utility infrastructure, site development and building pads, fish passage and environmental projects, structural excavation and demolition, and public works and transportation infrastructure
• Evaluate labor, equipment, material, subcontractor, and production costs
• Assist in bid preparation, pricing, and proposal development
• Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers
• Support change order pricing and cost evaluation
• Participate in project handoff and preconstruction planning activities
• Maintain accurate estimating records and documentation
• Support project budgeting, forecasting, and cost tracking efforts

Required qualifications

• Experience in heavy civil construction environments
• Understanding of construction methods associated with roads, bridges, utilities, earthwork, excavation, drainage, or transportation infrastructure
• Ability to interpret construction plans, specifications, and project scopes
• Working knowledge of quantity takeoffs, budgeting, estimating, project controls, or cost management
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Valid driver's license

Preferred qualifications

• Experience with Bluebeam, HCSS HeavyBid, Bid2Win (B2W), HeavyJob, Procore, Microsoft Project, or Primavera P6
• Previous experience as a Civil Estimator, Project Engineer, Assistant Project Manager, Project Manager, Superintendent, or Construction Manager
• DOT, public works, utility, transportation, excavation, or site development experience
