The New York State Unified Court System is seeking a Court Attorney - Referee to serve as a Hearing Officer in the Bronx County Supreme Court - Civil Term. Court Attorney-Referees act as special referees and research and analyze complex legal issues and questions raised in civil and criminal cases heard in trial courts or on appeal to certain County Courts and may be responsible for supervision of court attorneys and support staff who are located in one or more courts situated throughout a county, judicial district, or department. This position will be assigned to the Law Department.

Overview

The NYS Unified Court System seeks a Court Attorney-Referee to perform as a Hearing Officer, handling hearings, reporting findings, and researching complex legal questions within civil and criminal matters.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct hearings regarding framed issues, attorney fee hearings, traverse hearings, and conferences on partition cases.
  • Take testimony and report findings of fact to the judge.
  • Research and analyze complex legal questions and issues.
  • Confer cases and resolve motions in foreclosure and discovery parts.
  • Handle foreclosure and tax lien matters and write confidential memoranda and draft opinions.
Qualifications

Admission to the New York State Bar and three (3) years of service in the Associate Court Attorney title; or eight (8) years of relevant legal experience gained after admission to the New York State Bar.
