Job summary

Berkeley County First Steps invites a dedicated Healthy Steps Specialist to join our team at MUSC Pediatric clinics in Hanahan and surrounding sites. The role focuses on providing Early Childhood support, health education, and family coaching in partnership with pediatric providers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, counseling, early childhood education, or related field preferred.
  • Must be bilingual (English/Spanish).
  • Experience with early childhood development, family systems, and child health.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to underserved populations and community settings; data entry for reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide early childhood support education and screening in clinic and community settings.
  • Support parents in child development, health, literacy, and education topics.
  • Conduct visits with providers and independently as needed; participate in team meetings.
  • Promote Healthy Steps program, coordinate referrals, and support care coordination.
  • Track data for program management and reporting; contribute to CQI efforts.

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Healthy Steps Specialist to join our team. Healthy Steps Specialist will provide early childhood support services to the community at MUSC University Pediatrics Clinics in accordance with Berkeley County First Steps and Healthy Steps model, standards and practices.

Responsibilities
Developmental Health Education and Screening
  • Works closely with the pediatric team and existing home visiting programs as resource for developmental and parenting concerns
  • Provide support and education to parents in subjects related to their child’s development including health, literacy, and education.
  • Conducts office visits, either jointly with the provider or alone
Preventive and Responsive Care
  • Promotes Healthy Steps within the practices to families, providers and the community
  • Participates in First Steps/Healthy Steps reflective supervision meeting
  • Conduct home visits as part of the Healthy Steps’ team and may accompanyfamilies to key medical, specialty, and community agency appointments asneeded.
  • Reaches out to community providers in position to share about Healthy Steps/Berkeley County First Steps and receive information to support referrals, warm handoffs, and ensure appropriate referral criteria are met
  • Convenes and participates in community-wide early childhood and/or health meeting Team-Based Care
  • Engages in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) initiatives to ensure the
  • Healthy Steps model is delivered with fidelity
  • Maintains open communication with all members of the Healthy Steps and
  • Berkeley County First Steps team
  • Works closely with pediatric primary providers around care coordination, goalsetting, coaching and education about key aspects of a child’s development
  • Work closely with Healthy Steps Program Director to assist in planning Healthy Steps Community Convening
Caseload Tracking, Record Keeping, and Reporting
  • Helps with the maintenance of the HS and SCFS databases withing data report required to meet Healthy Steps fidelity metrics including both internal and external referrals
  • Collaborates with Healthy Steps Implementation Team to complete required annual site reporting to the Healthy Steps National Office at ZERO TO THREE
  • Presents at local, state, and nation meetings and conference on First Steps early childhood Health Initiations
  • Participates in administrative and clinical/reflective supervision meetings
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, early childhood education, or related field highly preferred
  • Must be bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Experience and knowledge about early childhood growth and development, parent-child relational health, infant and early childhood mental health, and family systems
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Commitment to working with underserved populations in a community setting
  • Strong motivational interviewing skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to take initiative and a willingness to learn
  • Ability to collect and enter data for program management, evaluation, and reporting purpose
