HEALTHY MARKET WORKER (FT) GRANT FUNDED
HAROLD WASHINGTION COLLEGE

Harold Washington College is seeking a Healthy Market Worker (FT).Reporting to the Clinical Director-Wellness Center or an assignedadministrator, the Healthy Market Worker (FT) performs operationaland manual tasks related to receiving, shelving, and organizingpackaged and refrigerated food products as well as fresh producefor distribution to students, CCC personnel, and the surroundingcommunity.

The Healthy Market Worker (FT) assists the supervisor inmaintaining food inventory records; prepares food orders forsubmission to the Greater Chicago Food Depository (GCFD) to -stock pantry; and maintains records on the number of individualsparticipating in the Healthy Market. Performs related duties asrequired.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Manual/Operations Tasks
  • Works as part of a team to stock and organize the HealthyMarket with packaged and refrigerated food and fresh produce tohelp alleviate the food insecurity challenges of students.
  • Receives food deliveries from GCFD, loading boxes from palletsonto a dolly(s), moving/pushing loaded dolly(s) to pantry site, andunloading and unpacking food items for shelving and storage.
  • Organizes and stores received goods on shelves, refrigerator,or freezer in compliance with Greater Chicago Food Depository(GCFD) food safety standards and checks expiration dates.
  • As needed, re-packs bulk food and produce and may organizeassorted food items into individual/family packages, boxes, or totebags for distribution and pick-up.
  • Organizes and prepares for food distribution events, informingjanitors on where to set up tables and move heavy/large items andstorage containers to designated event space and area.
  • Works with student workers and volunteers to organize, move,and carry lightweight food items to tables to provide access tostudents and guests.
  • Participates in returning leftover food products to storagefollowing event, moving items into storage bins, boxes, andrefrigerated appliances.
  • Checks and verifies participants complete Client Enrollment atThe Greater Chicago Food Depository form.
Customer Service/ Clerical
  • Registers and checks-in Healthy Market participants; ensuresguidelines for number of visits per month are followed; maintainsconfidentiality of personal information shared by students.
  • Greets guests and distributes food to those eligible within thecommunity at large and to those in need of emergency foodassistance.
  • Responds to information requests regarding the Healthy Marketreceived in person, via phone, and email.
  • Distributes flyers and helps publicize food distribution eventsto encourage student participation in the Healthy Market.
  • Adheres to cleaning, storage, and food safety protocols forpantry operations.
  • Assists in maintaining food inventory records and placing foodorders with the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
  • Provides orientation and guidance to student workers andvolunteers as required.
  • Participates in on-site enrollment events each semester forGCFD services.
  • Obtains and maintains a Food Handler Certificate
  • Must be able to handle physical aspects of the job such aslifting, carrying, and moving lightweight items.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands are representative of those that must be metby an employee to successfully perform the essential functions ofthe job. The job requires lifting, bending, carrying, unloading,and moving of food items. Must be able to lift and carry up to 30lbs. in the performance of duties

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School diploma or equivalent (such as HiSET or GED)
  • Some food pantry or clerical work experience desirable
  • Must obtain a Food Services Sanitation Manager Certificate froman approved training program within 60 days of hire
  • Must be courteous with good customer service skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to stock and distribute food items in an efficient andtimely manner
  • Ability to maintain records and perform data entry
  • Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity in using MicrosoftOffice

The salary range for this position is $48,389.15 -$50,808.60.

Offered salary will be determined by the respective collectivebargaining agreement and applicant's education, experience,knowledge, skills and abilities.
