Job summary

Portland Public Schools is seeking a Healthcare Workforce Program Coordinator to support the Strengthening Maine's Healthcare Workforce initiative across Mid-Coast and Northern Maine. You will convene stakeholders, conduct research, and connect adults 55+ and internationally trained professionals with workforce pathways.

The role requires independent field work, strong communication, data management, and travel across Maine, including Portland, Lewiston, and Bangor sites.

Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
• Familiarity with the Maine workforce system including employers, educational institutions and training providers, and other stakeholders.
• Familiarity with professional licensing requirements, barriers faced by non-traditional workforce participants, including internationally trained professionals, and strategies for overcoming those barriers.
• Experience or familiarity with conducting research and translating findings into program design.
• Excellent customer service, oral and written communication, organizational and technology skills.
• Self-motivated with a high degree of flexibility.
• Ability to work in a demanding environment.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, and facilitate focus groups and listening sessions with adults age 55 and older, healthcare employers, and other regional stakeholders to gather input on workforce interests, barriers, and training needs.
• Conduct research and compile data related to the healthcare workforce, training, and employer landscape in Mid-Coast and Northern Maine to inform program design.
• Develop and maintain relationships with regional healthcare employers, adult education programs, community colleges, aging-services organizations, and other partners; identify collaboration opportunities.
• Support planning and logistics of the project's advisory group, including scheduling, meeting preparation, note-taking, and follow-up with members.
• Assist NMRC advisors and Statewide Coordinator in connecting older adults, internationally trained professionals with healthcare employers and licensing pathways.
• Maintain accurate participant and activity data; contribute to regular program reports.
• Support outreach and promotion of the project among target populations and community organizations.
• Represent NMRC and PAE at meetings; travel across Maine, including Portland, Lewiston, Bangor sites.
