Job summary
Modern Healthcare, part of Crain Communications, is seeking an enterprising policy and politics journalist to cover healthcare policy and politics for a digital-first audience. You will track Congress, state policy and industry shifts, break news, and craft clear analysis with authoritative sources.
You will write fast and clean copy, develop enterprise pieces, and collaborate on multimedia projects, including data visualizations, newsletters and digital publishing workflows.
Qualifications
- Degree in journalism or a related field or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of reporting experience.
- Proven ability to break news and develop reliable sources.
- Ability to write clean, concise, accurate copy on tight deadlines.
- Strong news judgment and curiosity, with the ability to see the story in complex material.
Responsibilities
- Break news and deliver scoops on healthcare policy and politics with emphasis on Congress.
- Collaborate across teams covering healthcare regulation, providers, suppliers and insurers.
- Report quick-turn stories and longer enterprise pieces with analysis.
- Develop deep source relationships and surface stories early.
- Track data, filings, market moves and industry shifts to surface stories first.
