Job summary

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs seeks a skilled Locksmith for the Seattle VA Medical Center - Facilities Maintenance Shops in Seattle, WA. You will install, repair, and rekey locks, maintain security hardware, and troubleshoot access control systems in a federal healthcare setting.

Responsibilities include assessing locking devices, preparing parts, coordinating with security staff, and adhering to VA safety and policy standards. The position is Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Qualifications

• Evidence of training or experience showing ability to perform locksmith duties.
• Screen-out element: ability to perform locksmith work with no more than normal supervision.
• Experience with locks, door hardware, and related security systems is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates with the supervisor and police to discuss locking requirements and determine suitable locks.
• Improvises trade techniques to adapt locking mechanisms for unconventional uses.
• Determines if locks have been tampered with and documents findings for security.
• Performs installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of locks in doors and furniture.
• Maintains and uses key coding practices to conform to policy and VA criteria.
• Maintains master keying plans and key control records.
