Job summary

Phelps Health is seeking a Billing Specialist I to join our hospital team in Rolla, Missouri. You will enter claim details, post insurance, submit claims, and answer patient inquiries on accounts under the supervision of the Billing Supervisor.

Candidates should have a High School Diploma or GED and medical billing experience is highly preferred. Familiarity with billing software and electronic data submission is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Enters information for insurance claims (patient, insurance, ID).
• Submits insurance claims electronically or on paper (UB04/CMS-1500).
• Answers patient questions about balances, copays, and denials.
• Follow up on unpaid or denied claims with insurers.
• Prepare appeal letters for denied claims and gather supporting data.
• Maintain HIPAA compliance in handling patient information.
• Possibly perform passive collections for past-due accounts.
• Verify benefits eligibility and coverage as needed.
• Submit secondary claims after processing by primary insurer.
