Job summary

Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey seeks an Accounting Supervisor to oversee reconciliations, journal entries, and financial close for government programs and healthcare accounting functions. You will lead and develop staff, ensure policy compliance, and support internal/external audits with cross-functional collaboration.

The role emphasizes accuracy, timely reporting, and continuous improvement in a controlled environment within New Jersey.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or advanced degree preferred.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting or financial reporting experience, including reconciliations, journal entries, month-end close, and analysis.
• Experience leading and managing an accounting/finance team, including assigning work and coaching.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and SAP; knowledge of SAP is a plus.
• Experience supporting internal and external audits and working in a controlled environment.

Responsibilities

• Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting activities for general ledger accounts and related closings.
• Review reconciliations, journal entries, variance analyses, and schedules prepared by team members.
• Research and resolve discrepancies and aged reconciling items with business partners.
• Monitor financial data and ensure accurate general ledger recording and controls.
• Support audits with documentation and timely responses.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve accounting matters.
• Lead and develop accounting staff through coaching and workload management.
• Drive process improvements and system initiatives affecting accounting.
