HEALTH & WELLNESS COORDINATOR
Student Health Services

Classification: Level 1 / Class 2020 / Part Time / Non-exempt / Benefitted / Represented

Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week

Hiring Salary: $31/hour - $35/hour, Commensurate with experience

THE ROLE and RESPONSIBILITIES

The Health and Wellness Coordinator (the “Coordinator”) is responsible for the administration, coordination, and continuous improvement of the University's student health, wellness, and health insurance programs at UC Law San Francisco (UC Law SF). The Coordinator serves as the institution's primary resource on student health services and UC Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP) administration, develops health and wellness initiatives that support student success, and manages relationships with healthcare providers, insurance vendors, and UC system partners. Exercises substantial independent judgment while managing complex student issues, coordinating cross-functional initiatives, and developing effective solutions in a fast-paced higher education environment. The Coordinator reports to the Dean of Students. Candidates able to work in-person or on a hybrid (in-person/remote) basis are preferred, but fully remote candidates will be considered as well.

Typical duties and responsibilities consist of, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Serves as the University’s primary resource for student health services, health insurance, and student health related wellness programming.
  • Provides consultation to students, faculty, and staff on student health services and insurance-related matters, including services provided by third-party healthcare vendors and UC Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP) coverage.
  • In coordination with the Dean of Students, manages relationships with healthcare providers, insurance carriers, and other third-party vendors to ensure students have access to meaningful and robust primary care, urgent care, and mental health services.
  • Administers all aspects of UC SHIP insurance at the College, including waiver administration, vendor coordination, compliance monitoring, data management, reporting, and collaboration with affiliated vendors and staff (including the UC Office of the President, benefits coordinators, insurance companies, etc.).
  • Coordinates with admitted and continuing students to ensure compliance with student immunization, vaccination, and other health-related enrollment requirements.
  • Develops and independently maintains the College’s internal student health communications, including digital resources, printed materials, and campus-wide health services messaging. Works with campus stakeholders to ensure accuracy of health services information on the College’s public-facing website.
  • Coordinates and evaluates campus student health programs and events such as health fairs, educational workshops, vaccination clinics, and wellness initiatives.
  • Collects and analyzes utilization data, student feedback, and program outcomes to evaluate the effectiveness of health and wellness initiatives and recommend program improvements.
  • Develops and maintains departmental policies, procedures, and operation guidelines related to student health services, insurance administration, and relevant wellness programming.
  • Collaborates with Admissions, Student Services, the Disability Resources Program, and other campus partners to integrate health and wellness related programming throughout the student experience (including but not limited to orientation programming, animal assisted therapy, chair massages, health coaching).
  • Supports the Dean of Students in the development, implementation, and assessment of the College’s student health, wellness, and related student success initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Master of Professional degree in Public Health, Student Affairs, Higher Education, Health Administration, Counseling, or related field preferred.
  • Three years of progressively responsible professional experience in higher education, healthcare administration, public health, student affairs, or a related field required.
  • Knowledge of healthcare systems required; experience with student health insurance administration in a higher education setting preferred.
  • Experience managing health insurance, wellness programming, vendor relationships, or healthcare operations required.
  • Knowledge of FERPA, HIPAA, ADA, and higher education privacy and compliance requirements preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Excellent organizational, project management, and operational leaderships skills; ability to move and learn quickly in a fast-paced environment and meet multiple deadlines effectively with good judgment with respect to project prioritization and time management.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects and competing priorities simultaneously while exercising sound professional judgment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience developing and evaluating programs.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, responsiveness, and excellent customer service in working with diverse campus constituencies.
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills, with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships across departments and to manage vendor relationships with diplomacy and tact.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite of Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; familiarity with social media tools; comfort with using or learning a variety of online tools such as Box, Doodle Polls, and Coursedog.
  • Proven ability to exercise sound judgment and work effectively both independently and as a team player.
  • Experience interpreting and implementing institutional policies.
  • Ability to be proactive, creative, and solutions/results oriented.
