U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care System is seeking a Health Technician for the North Florida/South Georgia region, Andrew K. Baker Community Based Outpatient Clinic, PACT.

The role provides technical and supportive assistance to medical staff in diagnosing and managing patient conditions. Expect responsibilities including EKG support and specimen handling. Applicants may qualify via specialized experience, related graduate education, or a combination of both.

Qualifications

  • Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05.
  • Education: Six months of graduate education directly related to the position being filled.
  • Combination: A combination of education and experience that meets the qualification requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and supportive assistance to medical personnel and team members in the diagnosis or treatment of patient illnesses or conditions in a PACT setting.
  • Assist clinicians when needed by performing tasks such as EKGs and uploading Holter monitor data for diagnostic readings.
  • Receive samples for testing, label specimens correctly, centrifuge samples, and distribute them for processing.

Job description

The Health Technician will be located within the Veteran Affairs Health Care System, North Florida/South Georgia, Andrew K. Baker Community Based Outpatient Clinic, Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT). This position provides technical and supportive assistance to medical personnel and team members in the diagnosis or treatment of patient's illnesses or medical conditions in a PACT setting. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/14/2026.

Applicants must meet the Individual Occupation Requirement and Specialized Experience/Education. Each of these items are separate requirements.

Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR) for Health Aid and Technician Series (0640): Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:

  • Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Perform arrange of diagnostic support studies such as taking and labeling specimens for the laboratory; Perform blood-drawing/specimen collection duties in a courteous manor; Accurately document and deliver messages to the appropriate personnel; Assist clinicians when needed by performing (but not limited to) EKG's and upload Holter monitors data/results for diagnostic readings; receive samples for testing in the laboratory, label specimens correctly, centrifuge samples, and distribute them appropriately for processing.

OR,

  • Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have six months of graduate education directly related to the position being filled.

OR,

  • Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education that meets all of the qualification requirements.
