  • Liaison with nursing, nutrition, public health and related departments to provide research consultations.
  • Deliver health sciences research consultations for faculty and students.

Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION

They support scholars through research consultations in the areas of evidence synthesis, data discovery, data science, and traditional health sciences reference support. In these areas, they conduct workshops and course-integrated instruction; develop online research guides; lead outreach; and actively participate with their colleagues in the Health & Wellness team and throughout the Libraries, in particular Data and Digital Scholarship. They collaborate with colleagues on health sciences and data-related initiatives and projects to develop services within the libraries and broader campus community.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Liaison Engagement, Outreach, Collections, and Evidence Synthesis:
  • Serve as liaison to the College of Nursing and the departments of Nutrition, Public Health, Kinesiology, Recreation and Sport Studies, and Audiology and Speech Pathology
  • Provide discipline-specific research consultations for faculty and students in health-related programs
  • Build and maintain relationships with faculty, staff, and students to understand teaching and research needs
  • Establish and sustain effective communication methods with assigned departments
  • Proactively gather input from faculty and students to inform services and collections
  • Collaborate with collections staff to build and maintain relevant, responsive collections
  • Contribute to evidence synthesis work, including systematic reviews, through consultations and participation in projects
  • Engages in 1-3 hours of professional development opportunities each month to stay current with emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in health sciences librarianship.
Research Data Services
  • Contribute to the Libraries’ research data services by collaborating with data librarians to meet health sciences research needs
  • Support faculty and student research by helping researchers find, use, and manage health data and demonstrate research impact
  • Deliver customized health data research consultations for faculty, students, and the broader university community
  • Maintain and develop subject expertise in health sciences data, including data literacy, and the sharing and preservation of protected health data
  • Engages in 1-3 hours of professional development opportunities each month to stay current with emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in data librarianship.
Teaching And Instructional Support And Scholarly Communication
  • Support health sciences and data sciences teaching through instruction and outreach
  • Develop, deliver, and assess inclusive instruction that supports information literacy
  • Create and maintain guides, tutorials, and other learning resources for self-directed learning
  • Collaborate with librarians and campus partners to identify and support interdisciplinary research needs
  • Build partnerships that address emerging teaching and research priorities across disciplines
  • Develop expertise in scholarly communication trends and support new and evolving forms of scholarship

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
  • Master’s degree in Library andInformation Sciences or equivalent from an ALA accredited institution
Experience
  • 2 years of experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Health sciences librarianship or reference.
    • Evidence synthesis (systematic reviews, scoping reviews, literature searches).
    • Data services, data management, or data science support.
  • Library instruction or workshop facilitation.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in a variety of mediums.
  • Ability to learn and apply new technical skills and tools through self-directed learning.
  • Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and ability to work creatively and effectively both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong service orientation and abilities, and commitment to user service and support.
  • Familiarity with information sources in health sciences or related fields.
  • Familiarity with research and data lifecycles.
  • Knowledge of research methods and tools, such as online databases, web-based resources, and other reference sources

Experience
  • Experience with quantitative software and programming language(s) for data cleaning, remediation, analysis, and visualization.
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary groups and research projects.
  • Experience in developing and delivering data related workshops to classes and groups.
  • Experience in developing and delivering health sciences related workshops to classes and groups.
  • Experience in an academic library setting.
