Job summary

Overview

LMI is seeking a skilled, full-timeHealth Policy Data Scientist. The successful applicant will become part of a team dedicated to policy, operations, and analytical support work for the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), specifically the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) within the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Lead the analysis and modeling of healthcare data using machine learning, statistical modeling, and advanced analytics.
  • Develop, test, validate, and deploy machine learning models aligned with broader strategic objectives.
  • Analyze healthcare, compliance, and technical data to develop and maintain interactive reporting templates and dashboards that support program oversight.
  • Communicate tool functionality to diverse audiences and translate stakeholder feedback into technical enhancements.
  • Utilize, analyze, and manipulate multiple datasets to produce complex deliverables.
  • Proactively identify and guide clients through complex data and program operations to address key issues and assess downstream impacts.
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of complex, organization-specific datasets.
  • Perform routine and ad hoc analyses related to program operations, health policy, and system functionality, and clearly communicate findings to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Mentor and support technical team members through knowledge sharing and collaboration.
  • Foster cross-functional collaboration and contribute to a team-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrate a strong client service mindset and a commitment to continuous improvement in a culture of excellence.
  • Deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines while proactively communicating support needs and project risks.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Applied experience with data modeling, including Scikit-learn, XGBoost, regression modeling, classification modeling, time series forecasting, model evaluation, and model monitoring & retraining.
  • Experience developing and deploying machine learning or time series models.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and deploying data science, machine learning, and statistical models in fast-paced environments.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience developing automated processes using Python, DAX, Power Query, or similar programming languages.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with data analysis, data visualization, and reporting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical analyses into clear, actionable insights for non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to analyze test results and develop, review, and refine code as needed.
  • Experience delivering high-quality analytical products under both rapid turnaround (e.g., one hour) and long-term (e.g., one month or more) timelines.
  • 5+ years of client-facing experience in data analysis, data visualization, and reporting.

Desired:

  • Master's degree or other relevant graduate degree.
  • 2-4 years of experience supporting federal consulting engagements.
  • Experience working with healthcare claims data and a strong understanding of healthcare data structures.

Target salary range: $90,426 - $130,647
