Job summary

Allegheny Health Network seeks an organized Medical Assistant to support both administrative and clinical operations. You will prep exam rooms, assist providers during exams, and help manage patient scheduling and physician calendars.

The role requires a Medical Assistant certification and about 2 years of clerical/insurance verification experience in a medical office, plus proficiency with multiple software programs. Occasional travel to satellite offices may be required.

Qualifications

  • Medical Assistant certification is required.
  • Approximately 2 years of clerical support, insurance verification and registration experience in a medical office setting or equivalent education.
  • Experience with multiple computer software programs.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and oversees clerical and clinical functions.
  • Prep exam rooms, room patients, and assist healthcare providers during exams, procedures, testing, and injections.
  • Schedules patients for procedures, tests, and visits; maintains physician calendars and acts as liaison between physicians and patients.
  • Screens and directs phone calls; responds to internal and external inquiries.
  • Supports front office activities including registration, chart prep, insurance verifications, precertifications, and billing functions.
  • Orders and tracks inventory of operational and clinical items.
  • May travel to satellite offices to support physicians as required.

General Overview

Supports and enhances the activities of the practice by providing administrative and clinical support and coordinating daily operations.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Coordinates and oversees clerical and clinical functions. (20%)
  • Coordinates and/or performs clinical support duties not limited to preparing exam rooms, rooming patients to obtain health and physical information, and assisting healthcare providers in the delivery of patient care during exams, procedures, testing and administering injections. (20%)
  • Schedules patients for procedures, diagnostic testing, and/or office visits. Provides patients with instructions and serves as liaison between the physician and patients. Maintains physician(s) calendars. (20%)
  • Screens and directs telephone calls as appropriate. Takes appropriate actions and responds to internal and external customer inquiries. (20%)
  • Supports front office including registration, chart preparation, insurance verifications, precertifications, and billing functions. (15%)
  • Orders and tracks inventory of operational and clinical items. (5%)
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
  • May travel to satellite office locations to support physician(s) as required.
Qualifications
Minimum
  • Medical Assistant certification
  • 2 years of clerical support, insurance verification and registration experience in a medical office setting or equivalent education
  • Experience with multiple computer software programs
Preferred
  • Associate's Degree
  • Driver's license

  • Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
