Job summary

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs seeks a Medical Records Technician (HIT) within the Health Information Management section of the Patient Business Service at the Chalmers P. Wylie VA ACC.

MRT HIT duties include incomplete record analysis, reviewing, abstracting, maintaining, extracting, and compiling information from health records. Applicants must meet basic requirements and may qualify through various education or experience combinations, including health information

Qualifications

• One year of creditable experience in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and health records.
• An associate's degree in health information technology/health information management or related degree with 12 semester hours in HIT/HIM.
• Six months of experience plus education or training as described to substitute for experience.
• English proficiency in spoken and written English.

Responsibilities

• Review, analyze, abstract, maintain, extract, and compile information from health records.
• Check records for accuracy, completeness, timeliness, and regulatory compliance.
