Job summary

We Are CASA in Maryland is seeking a Health Information Specialist to build and maintain the Health Information Hotline database and to disseminate health resources to the target population.

You will collect caller demographics, offer information and navigational help, and support assessments of access to health services including Medicare and Medicaid eligibility. Fluency in French and English is required.

Qualifications

  • Experience navigating the social services system in the We Are CASA service area, including Medicaid, Medicare, WIC and clinics.
  • Experience working with the community over the phone and in person.
  • Computer skills including databases (like Salesforce), internet search and spreadsheet software.
  • Bilingual French and English required.
  • Excellent customer service, problem solver, initiative and strong organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain an up-to-date referral database and add new referrals as needs arise.
  • Promote the Information Hotline via outreach, ads, networking and printed media.
  • Record caller demographics, reasons for calls and referrals.
  • Provide information, referrals and navigational assistance to callers and walk-ins.
  • Assist in assessing actual access to health and human services, including Medicare/Medicaid eligibility.
  • Ensure 24-hour max response time for voicemails and coordinate coverage.

We Are CASA has a sister organization, CASA in Action, a separate, but related, nonprofit organization that is exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code. Although We Are CASA and CASA in Action share a common goal of supporting immigrants and low‑income people in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Georgia, they are separate organizations with their own board of directors. DEPARTMENT SYNOPSIS:

The Health and Human Services Department responds to the needs of low‑income Latinos and other immigrants and their families, utilizing service provision models that promote building the power of the immigrant community. This includes community education to prevent problems and build on community interest and assets, and working to impact trends that negatively affect low‑income Latinos and other immigrants. The Health and Human Services Department includes the Health Promotion and Community Access, Legal, and Immigrant Integration programs.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Contributes to developing the database of health and human services available to the target population and disseminates this information among the population through We AreCASA’s Bilingual Health Information Hotline. The Health Information Specialist will also contribute to the assessment of actual access to health care services through interviews to clients served by the Hotline.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintains an up‑to‑date referral database and will make relevant additions to it in response to needs of the target population.
  • In coordination with Manager, works on promoting the Information Hotline via direct outreach, advertisements, networking and printed media.
  • Incorporates into database the basic caller demographics, reasons for calling and referrals provided.
  • Provides information and referrals as well as navigational assistance to callers as well as walk‑in members
  • Contributes to an ongoing assessment of actual access to health and human services for our target population. This includes, but is not limited to, information on Medicare and Medicaid eligibility.
  • Maintain a 24‑hour maximum response time for all callers who leave voicemails, coordinate access to voicemails with other team members when out on leave.
  • Submits aggregate data report of Hotline calls and walk in services provided to supervisor.
  • Participates actively in the annual planning process, including developing and executing individual work plans, evaluating and providing feedback on plans as the year progresses
  • Participates in program meetings, planning and evaluation
  • Participation in We Are CASA actions, mobilizations and events as needed and required
  • Provide quality customer service, interactions and responses to all members, partner organizations, vendors, visitor, callers and any other individual or organization you may encounter in your role with We Are CASA.
  • Understand and promote We Are CASA membership and services

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE:

  • Valid US Driver’s License and a reliable vehicle
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  • Experience working navigating the social services system in the We Are CASA service area, including general knowledge of the Medicaid, Medicare, WIC health insurance, community clinics, and the healthcare system.
  • Experience working with the community over the phone as well as in person

COMPENSATION:

$24.0385 - $27.2262 per hour

BENEFITS DESCRIPTION:
Who is eligible?
  • All full time and part time permanent positions working 20 hours or more per week.
