Job summary

Avera McKennan Hospital is seeking an HIM Specialist to manage the recording, dissemination, and processing of medical records within the EHR system. You will scan/upload documents, identify errors, and handle information requests from internal and external customers.

This role emphasizes attention to detail, data integrity, and regulatory compliance as you work with physicians and staff to ensure accurate patient records and support revenue cycle activities in Sioux Falls.

Qualifications

• Must be able to work the hours specified and perform essential job functions with attention to detail.
• Ability to communicate effectively with others and maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Retrieve records and documentation from departments throughout the facility and reconcile for accurate medical records.
• Process records for scanning/uploading; assemble, clean, remove unnecessary documents and verify images in the EHR.
• Greet and assist patients and staff at HIM customer service; answer calls and route requests.
• Analyze electronic health records for quality and deficiencies; abstract clinical, financial, and demographic data into the EHR.
• Assist with patient identity edits/merges within the EHR to ensure record integrity.
• Maintain productivity and quality standards; ensure compliance with HIPAA and applicable laws.
