Job summary

Yakima Neighborhood Health Services is seeking a Health Information Management Director to lead daily operations of the health information department, ensuring accurate, timely, and secure patient records management in line with HIPAA and regulatory requirements.

The role requires supervisory experience, proficiency in EHR systems, and strong organizational and leadership abilities, with bilingual skills considered an asset.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management preferred; RHIT or RHIA strongly desired.
  • Minimum of three years' experience in health information or medical records management, including supervisory responsibilities.
  • Proficiency in EHR systems.
  • Strong knowledge of HIPAA regulations, release of information processes, and record retention requirements.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Bilingual ability is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and actively participate in the organization, retrieval, and retention of health records.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory standards for privacy and security.
  • Supervise and mentor HIM staff, providing training and performance feedback.
  • Maintain adequate staffing and adjust workflows to meet operational needs.
  • Monitor EHR processes, chart completion, and documentation accuracy.
  • Manage release of information requests and ensure timely, compliant responses.
  • Conduct regular audits and quality assurance reviews to maintain data integrity.
  • Develop and update departmental policies and procedures in alignment with best practices.
  • Collaborate with clinical and administrative leaders on initiatives related to data governance, compliance, and quality improvement.
  • Maintain a secure, organized, and efficient work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Our Ideal Candidate:

The Health Information Management Director is a hands-on leader responsible for the daily operations of the health information department. This role ensures accurate, timely, and secure management of patient records in compliance with HIPAA, organizational policies, and regulatory requirements. The Director actively participates in operational tasks while guiding staff to maintain efficient workflows, data integrity, and confidentiality across both paper and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
