Saint Francis Hospital, Inc. is seeking a Health Information Coding Trainer to ensure coders stay current with regulatory changes and hospital reimbursement requirements.
You will design curriculum, teach coding guidelines, and support on-the-job training for graduates and experienced coders, including remote training and certification prep. The role emphasizes improving productivity and quality, with collaboration with HIM management and reporting to the Health Information Manager.
Full Time Days Monday-Friday Dayshift
The Health Information Coding Trainer ensures coders are trained and up to date on the latest regulatory changes and requirements that affect coding compliance and hospital reimbursement. The trainer handles all on-the-job training for new coding graduates, coders transitioning to another level, experienced coders for any special educational needs and annual and/or ongoing educational updates. The trainer must stay current and up-to-date on all coding resources that affect coding and reimbursement. Primarily the trainer must keep coders-in-training on track with proficient outcomes both productivity and quality wise. The Health Information Coding Trainer will work with HIM management to design appropriate curriculum, teach coding guidelines, rules, etc., and report to the Health Information Manager.
High School Diploma or GED required.
Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) required for facility coding. Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Certified Risk Adjustment Coder (CRC) preferred.
5 to 7 years related experience. Experience coding all facility type accounts, 5-7 years coding experience, training experience preferred. EPIC and Optum experience preferred. Knowledge of National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI).
Minimum score of 85% on pre-employment coding test. Ability to train coders remotely. Ability to utilize related software and computer/PC skills. Advanced knowledge of coding. Excellent interpersonal, written and oral skills. Ability to analyze data and produce reports using MS office. Demonstrates expertise in all types of coding.
Independent judgment in planning sequence of operations and making minor decisions in a complex technical or professional field.
Direct supervision of others - Number of people supervised: (depending on number of coding trainees) Prepares and gives performance evaluations. Works with other healthcare professional and staff.
