Job summary

Elmcor Youth & Adult Activities Inc. is seeking a Health Educator to implement curricula and programming in partner schools and community settings in Queens, NY.

You will educate youth and families on adolescent sexuality, pregnancy prevention, and wellness, and support family planning communications. Responsibilities include delivering evidence-based programs with fidelity, conducting trainings, outreach, reporting, and referrals to health services.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in health education, health science, public health, or community health required.
  • At least two years of experience in health education.
  • Ability to facilitate discussion and teach classes on reproductive health topics.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver evidence-based programming with fidelity to youth in various settings.
  • Conduct community outreach and education.
  • Complete required reporting and pre/post evaluations for each cycle.
  • Provide referrals for youth to access family planning and health services.
  • Establish relationships with community organizations and faith-based partners.
  • Work with school partners, CBOs and FBOs to educate communities on adolescent sexuality and pregnancy prevention.
  • Offer adult preparation workshops for caregivers to improve parent/child communication.
  • Assist to develop and improve program services to meet objectives.
  • Engage in youth development activities and promote healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Attend meetings, trainings, and other program-related functions.
  • Travel to off-site locations to provide services.

Salary Range: $27.58 To $27.58 Hourly

Summary:

The Health Educator will work under the supervision of the Health Educator Supervisor to implement CAPP/PREP curricula and programming at partnering schools and organizations. Conduct weekly educational health related workshops (individual or series of workshops) designed to educate youth and families on adolescent sexuality topics, pregnancy prevention and teaching behaviors that promote wellness at Elmcor Youth & Adult Activities. Additionally, the health educator will conduct parent workshops to enhance communication skills for the purpose of family planning and parent/child communication regarding adolescent sexual health. Health Educators will provide referrals to education and support programs that assist families in need.

Responsibilities:
  • Completing orientation and training including on-line implementation training prior to delivering evidence -based programming. This training is available on the ACT for Youth website atwww.actforyouth.net .
  • Completing training for specific evidence-based programming, if defined by the model developer.
  • Delivering evidenced-based program with fidelity to youth in variety of settings
  • Conducting community outreach and education.
  • Completing required reporting accurately and timely as designated
  • Providing assistance and/or referrals for youth to obtain comprehensive family planning services, health services or other essential support services as identified
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with Community-Based organizations (CBO) and Faith-Based Organizations (FBO) providing housing, substance abuse , legal, health, mental health, educational , vocational, and other support services for youth.
  • Work with Elmcor’s (CAPP/PREP) school partners, CBO and FBO partners to provide information sessions designed to educate the community at large regarding adolescent sexuality topics for the purpose of pregnancy prevention and improvement in life outcomes.
  • Provide adult preparation subject workshops at Elmcor’s PREP2 CBO and FBO partners for caregivers to improve parent/child communications and family planning information
  • Assist to develop and improve program services to meet or exceed all contracted and/or mandated objectives and goals.
  • Implement positive activities that are youth development focused and will support healthy choices, a healthy lifestyle expose youth to career exploration, cultural and educational activities.
  • Complete and submit all required workshop evaluations summary reports, pre and post tests for each EBP cycle
  • Assist with all intervention and prevention services which may include: community service projects, cultural and educational enrichment trips etc., including monitoring attendance and the maintenance of client records.
  • Attend all meetings, trainings, collaborative efforts and other program and agency -related functions
  • Travel to off-site locations to provide services
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in health education, health science, public health, or community health degree required. At least two years of experience in health education
  • Ability to facilitate discussion/teach classes to youth in a variety of setting on reproductive health topics as reproductive anatomy, contraceptive methods, STDs and HIV/AIDS
  • Experience working with youth and demonstrated ability to be inclusive and non-stigmatizing in their role
  • Knowledge of experience with priority population to be served and community
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and/or weekends.
