Department Information

The Wellness Empowerment Center provides upstream, innovative, and relevant programs, services and initiatives to help students and employees thrive. The team creatively designs prevention and education efforts to promote, nurture, and enrich the Georgia Tech community of health, well-being, and caring. Services include health and well-being educational programs, events and workshops, nutrition counseling, and sexual violence prevention, education and response.

Job Summary

Position will develop health promotion activities and initiatives within Stamps Health Services. Plan, implement, and evaluate theory-and evidence-based health promotion programs and services designed to improve the health and academic performance of individual students, student groups, and campus communities. Position may deal with planning, implementing, and evaluating age-appropriate health education strategies aimed at influencing health behaviors of college students. May work with the campus community and SHS staff to assess the needs and develop strategies to meet the health needs of GT students on a variety of core health issues (i.e., alcohol, sexual health, nutrition, stress management, sexual violence prevention, etc.). Collaborate with key stakeholders on and off campus to develop a comprehensive multidisciplinary approach to health for students. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: Health Promotion professional and student staff, Stamps Health Services staff, Communications and Marketing Committee, Safety Committee. This position will typically advise and counsel: same as above. This position will supervise: N/A.

Responsibilities

• Job Duty 1 - Develop, implement and evaluate upstream, innovative, programs, services and initiatives to promote health and well-being for student and employee success
• Job Duty 2 - Develop, implement, and analyze periodic student health surveys that (1) provide baseline and follow-up health and well-being data, (2) identify program needs and priorities, (3) evaluate the effectiveness of programs and services, and (4) track trends in student health status and behavior.
• Job Duty 3 - Collaborate with key stakeholders on and off campus to develop a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to health for students.
• Job Duty 4 - Hire, train, manage, supervise, and evaluates paid and/or volunteer staff, interns, and/or peer educators.
• Job Duty 5 - Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Health Promotion, Health Policy or Health Education or equivalent combination of education and experience

Other Required Qualifications Experience working with adolescents or young adults; university environment experience preferred with use of electronic medical records

Required Experience Two to four years of job related experience

Additional Preferred Qualifications Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES)

Preferred Educational Qualifications Master's or Advanced Degree

Impact & Influence

This position works collaboratively with Wellness Empowerment staff, healthcare providers, counseling professionals, student organizations, faculty, and staff, campus administrators, and community partners. The Health Educator serves as a subject matter expert on student wellness and provides consultation, education, and guidance to campus stakeholders. The position may supervise student employees, graduate assistants, interns, volunteers, and peer educators while contributing to strategic initiatives that enhance student health and well-being across the Institute.

Proposed Salary

Salary is $60K - 65K commensurate with experience
