Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) is seeking an intermediate-level Health Professional II within HFEMSD Academy and Workforce Development Program to support field surveys and investigations in regulated health facilities.

The Health Facilities and Emergency Medical Services Division (HFEMSD) is responsible for the oversight and enforcement of a broad range of federal and state statutes and regulations applicable to a wide variety of healthcare facilities and services in Colorado, including hospitals, clinics, ambulatory surgical facilities, renal dialysis centers, emergency medical services providers, designated and non-designated trauma centers, long term care facilities and many other specific types of healthcare services. The division licenses, certifies and surveys healthcare facilities and services; provides patient safety and healthcare quality programs; recognizes emergency medical service (EMS) education programs; certifies EMS providers and licenses air and ground ambulance services operating within the state.
The purpose of the HFEMSD Academy and Workforce Development Program is to provide a structured, consistent framework for staff development across the Health Facilities and EMS Division. It serves as a centralized hub for regulatory training, and ongoing professional development, ensuring staff are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to perform their roles effectively and uphold the Division’s standards of quality, safety, and compliance.
This position serves as an intermediate-level inspector within the Academy framework, building on foundational competencies developed at the Health Professional I level. The position is responsible for conducting portions of health facility surveys and complaint investigations with increased field responsibility, while continuing to operate under structured supervision and guidance.
This position advances trainees from observational learning to active participation and execution of survey activities in field settings. The Health Professional II independently performs defined components of inspections and investigations, including evidence gathering, documentation, and preliminary analysis, while working under the direction of a supervisor or senior health professional. The position emphasizes: application of regulatory knowledge in real-world environments; development of critical thinking and survey decision-making skills; Increased accountability for field work products; continued mentorship and quality oversight.

NOTE: An applicant may meet the minimum qualifications for this job in one of two ways: They may qualify through their work experience alone or through a combination of education and work experience.
Experience Only: Five (5) years of relevant experience in health care in a facility or program regulated by the Health Facilities and Emergency Medical Services Division, or closely related experience.
OR
Education and Experience: A combination of related education in Public Health, Social Work, Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Psychology, or closely related field, and/or relevant experience in health care in a facility or program regulated by the Health Facilities and Emergency Medical Services Division, or closely related experience equal to five (5) years.
