Job summary

Carle Health is seeking a Staff Registered Nurse (RN) to care for patients undergoing endoscopy procedures, including prep, intra-procedure, and recovery phases. The RN will administer moderate sedation under physician direction and collaborate with the GI team in a fast-paced outpatient setting.

The role requires an active Illinois RN license, strong patient care skills, and the ability to document and plan care with patients and families.

Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license.
• GI/endoscopy experience preferred.
• BLS/CPR certification required or current.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in GI endoscopy including prep, intra-procedure, and recovery phases.
• Administer moderate sedation under physician direction.
• Document care and communicate with the healthcare team to ensure seamless care.
• Assess patients, develop and adjust plans of care with patient/family involvement.
• Supervise and delegate to unlicensed staff as appropriate.

Job description

The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame and provides care to these patients via the utilization of the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, financial and human resources within the philosophy of the institution. The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for patients undergoing endoscopy procedures including prep, intra procedure and recovery phases for routine GI procedures of colonoscopy and upper endoscopy. The RN will provide direct patient care, rotating through the phases, and deliver moderate sedation under direction of physician. Works collaboratively with unit staff to provide care to outpatient populations and delegates to unlicensed personal as appropriate.

Performs all responsibilities and duties required by unit as specific to the scope of service. Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to assure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team. Completes initial assessment upon patient admission and develops appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards and that is based on patient and family needs. Implements plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. Modifies plan of care based upon continuous evaluation. Communicates with others directly and in private when necessary to resolve issues. Completes assessment, reviews health history, starts IV and provides education to patient. Assists the CRNA during cases requiring anesthesia involvement. The overall role of the professional RN in Digestive Health is to define, direct, supervise and evaluate patient care directly and via delegation to others by using the nursing process.
