We are united by a shared passion and no-limits mindset, and our strength lies in our ability to collaborate as a powerful international team comprised of 24,000 employees spanning over 56 countries. People join Howden for many different reasons, but they stay for the same one: our culture. It’s what sets us apart, and the reason our employees have been turning down headhunters for years. Whatever your priorities – work / life balance, career progression, sustainability, volunteering – you’ll find like-minded people driving change at Howden.

Who are we? Howden is a global, employee-owned insurance group operating across more than 50 territories, with a presence spanning broking, underwriting, and risk management services. Howden combines international scale with local specialization, and ownership structure extends broadly across its employee base.

Why work at Howden?

Howden operates with a culture built on collaboration, technical expertise, and long-term relationship building with clients and carrier partners. Employees are provided access to development resources, industry training, and cross-functional collaboration across Howden’s global network. The employee-ownership model aligns individual performance with the organization’s overall results.

What is the role?

Howden is seeking a Producer to join its Health & Benefits team in Houston. This role is responsible for generating new business, managing an existing book of employee benefits accounts, and building relationships with clients and carrier partners across the region.

What will you be doing?
New Business Development
  • Identify, pursue, and close new Health & Benefits accounts within the assigned territory
  • Develop and execute a prospecting strategy using referral networks, carrier relationships, and market research
  • Prepare and deliver proposals, presentations, and renewal strategies to prospective clients
Account Management
  • Maintain and grow an assigned book of Health & Benefits business
  • Coordinate with account executives, benefits consultants, and compliance teams to service client accounts
  • Conduct periodic account reviews to identify coverage gaps, cross-sell opportunities, and retention risks
Relationship Management
  • Build and maintain relationships with carrier partners, underwriters, and other market contacts
  • Represent Howden at industry events, trade associations, and client functions
  • Stay current on market trends, regulatory developments (e.g., ACA, ERISA), and competitor activity within the Health & Benefits segment
What are we looking for?
  • Active Health & Benefits (Life, Accident & Health) producer license in Texas (or ability to obtain within a defined period)
  • Demonstrated track record of new business production within employee benefits accounts
  • Established network of referral sources and/or carrier relationships within the Houston market
  • Strong working knowledge of group health, dental, vision, life, disability, and voluntary benefits products
  • Professional designations (CEBS, GBA, REBC, or equivalent) preferred but not required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present to prospective and existing clients
Compensation and Benefits

This role is classified as exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). In addition to a competitive base salary, this position is eligible to participate in a commission-based incentive program. Howden also offers a variety of benefits and programs, subject to eligibility, including:

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance, including healthcare savings and reimbursement accounts
  • 401(k) retirement plan
  • Flexible Paid Time Off and paid parental leave
  • Life and Disability insurance
Our sustainability promise

Howden is committed to operating sustainably and to supporting the communities in which it operates. The organization integrates environmental, social, and governance considerations into its business practices and encourages employee participation in sustainability initiatives.

What do we offer in return?

A career that you define. At Howden, we value diversity – there is no one Howden type. Instead, we’re looking for individuals who share the same values as us: Our successes have all come from someone brave enough to try something new. We support each other in the small everyday moments and the bigger challenges. We are determined to make a positive difference at work and beyond.

Reasonable adjustments

We're committed to providing reasonable accommodations at Howden to ensure that our positions align well with your needs. Besides the usual adjustments such as software, IT, and office setups, we can also accommodate other changes such as flexible hours* or hybrid working*. *Not all positions can accommodate changes to working hours or locations.

Permanent

Howden began in 1994, as just three people and a dog. Now there are 23,000 of us, and we're a leading global insurance group, managing $37bn of premiums for our clients. Our largest shareholder group is us – the people who work in the business – supported by three long-term, minority growth-equity partners who share our vision to build a business to last, one that will never be sold. The owner's mindset is something that's embedded in our culture; our people readily take ownership of their decisions, their actions, and their outputs. They’re invested in every sense. And we all know that by working together to drive the business forward, everyone will benefit from the extraordinary results we can achieve.
