Job description

We are seeking a talented individual to join our Health & Benefits (H&B) team, part of our People & Investments business at Marsh. This role will be based in Los Angeles and offers a hybrid work arrangement, requiring a minimum of three days per week in the office.

As a Health & Benefits Consultant, you will assist with managing consulting engagements with large market employers regarding their medical, dental, life, and disability benefit plans and programs. You will negotiate with benefits carriers and vendors to secure health and welfare plan coverage for these employers, acting as the client manager and often the relationship manager.

We will count on you to:
  • Provide financial, contract, and administrative analyses, while managing project components and addressing ad hoc client operational and administrative challenges
  • Support financial analysis and review including underwriting, data analytics, and partnership with actuaries to support funding analysis
  • Thrive and be motivated by an environment that embraces AI and technology-enabled tools
  • Contribute as a member of the consulting team in developing overall client strategy, interpret and present benchmark data to clients, and ensure plan and program changes align with client objectives
  • Demonstrate project management skills and manage the quality and timeliness of deliverables, and delegate to and review project work of more junior colleagues
  • Manage internal specialty resources ensuring client deliverables meet goals, deadlines, and quality standards
  • Prepare, review, and deliver clear, client-friendly communications and reports through established peer review processes
  • Work directly with the client and manage the request for proposal (RFP) process with the health insurance carriers and internal analyst
  • Collect and review the analysts’ compilation of health benefits information from a variety of sources (such as hard files, electronic files, the client, and carriers), responses from the carriers and the data in a template (customization depends on client plan types, funding, rate structure, etc.), and review the transparency documents
  • Analyze carrier proposals, interpret findings, and prepare executive summaries and recommendations for clients
  • Ensure compliance with professional standards, including use of template, client calendar, peer review requirements, and transparency practices
  • Build and maintain carrier and vendor relationships to support plan administration, eligibility, claims, billing, implementations, contract management, and plan amendments
What you need to have:
  • BA/BS degree
  • 3-5 years of experience in identifying, designing, recommending, and implementing efficient, innovative business solutions to clients' complex health care benefit plans
  • Client facing experience in a consulting capacity
  • Renowned expertise and industry reputation in the health & benefits field
What makes you stand out?
  • Life & Health License
  • Strong, innovative sales and marketing skills plus the ability to market organizational strengths successfully
  • Well-versed mathematical skills, strategic planning, communication, and listening skills
  • Proven management skills in leading large, complex projects
Why join our team:

  • We foster a vibrant and inclusive culture where you can work with talented colleagues to create new solutions and have an impact on colleagues, clients, and communities.
  • Our scale enables us to provide a range of career opportunities, as well as benefits and rewards to enhance your well-being.
