Job summary

Great Hearts Academies in Scottsdale and the East Valley seeks a School Health Assistant Substitute to support the Registered Nurse in caring for students and safeguarding their health on campus. Responsibilities include first aid, vital signs, vision/hearing screenings, medication administration as delegated, immunization tracking, and maintaining the health office.

Requires CPR certification, 1–2 years school health experience, and proficiency with Power School, Office, SharePoint and Google

Qualifications

• Current CPR Certification.
• 1–2 years of healthcare or school health experience preferred (not required).
• CPR/First Aid certification required.

Responsibilities

• Provide appropriate care to students with illness or injury on campus.
• Take vital signs.
• Provide basic first aid and CPR.
• Under RN supervision, administer prescription medications as delegated.
• Contact parents/guardians to notify of illness/injury.
• Maintain immunization records and Power School entries.
• Administer and record medications in Power School.
• Participate in health screenings (vision and hearing).
• Maintain confidentiality of students and families.
• Keep health office clean and organized.
• Travel locally for training and professional development.

Position Title: School Health Assistant SubstituteLocation: Academy locations in Scottsdale and the East ValleyReports To: Director of Nursing and HeadmasterFLSA Status: Non-exemptCompensation Amount: $22.00-$24.00/hourPosition Summary: The school health assistants as delegated by the Registered Nurse are responsible for taking care of students and ensuring their good health and safety while on school premises. They assist the school nurses by handling routine health-related tasks and clerical duties. Furthermore, they should have a good ability to work with children, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to handle crises calmly and quickly along with sound knowledge of safety practices and health standards.Under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse, the health assistant supports the daily activities of the school's health office. Duties include first aid and safety, treating students, verifying immunization compliance, hearing and vision screening and administration of medication as delegated by the Registered Nurse. Responsibilities may include various health tasks and clerical work in assisting students with health-related needs. The nature of work involves lifting, positioning, transferring, and aiding in bodily functions as needed.Duties and Responsibilities:Provide appropriate care to students with illness or injury while on campusTake vital signsProvide basic first aid and CPR.Under supervision of registered nurse may administer prescription medicationsContact parents/guardians to notify of illness or injuryMaintain and monitor immunizations recordsMaintain proficiency with Power School charting of office visits, medication, hearing and vision and immunization complianceAdminister and record medications in Power SchoolParticipate in health screenings. Vision and hearingMust be able to attend hearing certification courseProvide care to disabled studentsMaintain clean and organized health officeMaintain confidentiality of students and familiesDemonstrates care, kindness, and respect for other school staffRequired/Preferred Education: Current CPR Certification.Required/Preferred Experience: Preferred (not required) Experience: 1-2 years working in healthcare setting or school health environment. License and Certifications: CPR/First Aide required.If one holds a license/certification such as CNA, LNA or Medical Assistant, licensure will need to be provided upon hire.Required/Preferred Skills:Experience in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), SharePoint and Google Sheets is highly preferredStrong multitasking and time management skillsAbility to work independently as well as collaborate with the registered nursePhysical Functions: Requires but is not limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching.
