Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing required.

The development of specific technical skills enables the RNFA to assist the surgeon with specific intraoperative procedures that are beyond the scope of practice for registered nurses without RNFA education and training. This RNFA role is responsible for first assisting on surgical procedures and coordinating all aspects of such. This includes coordinating scheduling, education of clinical staff, ensuring availability and care of instruments and equipment, and participating in research efforts. The RNFA is directly supervised by the surgeon and performs functions specifically identified and consistent with training received.
