School Health Assistant
The School Health Assistant assists school personnel with specific student health issues and performs clerical duties for the Health Room. This position handles sensitive and confidential issues and requires excellent communication skills.
Qualifications
- Prior job-related experience with increasing responsibility.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint credential.
- Current First Aid/CPR certificates.
Essential Job Functions
- Provides basic first aid and emergency care for illness or injury and refers emergency situations to district nurse, administration, parents, appropriate emergency medical personnel and support personnel.
- Monitors student health status during periods of short‑term rest or recovery in the health room.
- Collects and maintains data and records on student health issues as required by the district, state, and federal regulations.
- Provides delegated health care tasks for students with chronic health problems.
- Where appropriate, administers medication to students following District and school protocols under the direction and training of the school nurse.
- Keeps accurate records of medication brought to the health room.
- Notifies nurse and/or parents of medication‑related updates or changes such as orders, treatments, practitioner orders, needed refills/pick‑ups, expired medication, etc.
- Assists other school personnel with health screenings.
- Prepares medications, supplies, and precautions, consults/communicates with teacher and assesses need for staff training for field trips.
- Monitors students in a variety of settings (e.g., classroom, transportation, field trips) for the purpose of providing care as defined by student health plans and monitoring of student needs.
- Maintains and updates student health records.
- Collects immunization and tuberculosis data.
- Composes reports and documents for administrators and other school staff regarding student health issues.
- Manages health‑related referrals from other school staff members.
- Processes documents and materials for the purpose of disseminating information to appropriate parties.
- Orders necessary supplies for the health room and other materials as requested.
- Communicates effectively with parents related to student health issues.
- Assists with physically transferring students from wheelchairs, mats, or other positioning equipment.
Other Job Functions
- Cross‑trains in a variety of office functions and assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities within scope of pay range and job description.
- Assists in general office duties to include answering phones, directing calls, providing proper information, taking messages, preparing and distributing forms and correspondence and ordering supplies.
- Performs selected tasks from School Health Management Plan as delegated and supervised by the Registered Nurse.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

Educational Assistant – Elementary/Middle – Media
The job of “Educational Assistant – Elementary/Middle – Media” is done to ensure an orderly operation and maintenance of the school media collection and to provide library services to students and staff.
Qualifications
- Prior job‑related experience, paid or volunteer, with school‑age children.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Highly Qualified Status: completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (72 college quarter hours or more) or met a rigorous standard demonstrating knowledge of and ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.
- Fingerprinting and Criminal Background check, and current First Aid/CPR card.
Essential Job Functions
- Manages circulation and collection, utilizing the automated system in place, including adding and deleting patron records, backing up data each day, adding and deleting materials, processing materials, running reports as needed, and keeping an inventory of the collection.
- Monitors classes that come to the media center for regular library visits: check‑in/check‑out of materials, reading a story (elementary), supervising study hall or work sent by the teacher, supervising silent reading time.
- Processes materials for library use: spine label, stamp, bar code, enters into the system.
- Repairs/mends library materials as needed.
- Aids students in the selection process and in other computer work.
- Trains and supervises volunteers helping with media center upkeep, e.g., shelving books.
- Acts as a representative of the media center: fielding calls from parents, fielding calls from sales representatives, working with parent clubs, working with the public library.
Other Job Functions
- Helps maintain general upkeep of the library.
- Sets up space for classes, meetings held in the library.
- Gathers collections for staff as requested.
- Notifies staff and students of overdue materials in a timely manner.
- Processes holds for students.
- Promotes library as needed (bookmarks, posters, etc.)
- Makes bookmarks as needed.
- Sorts media mail and develops and maintains a file of vendor catalogs.
- Keeps a list of teacher/student requests for ordering purposes.
- Collects money and issues receipts for lost books and issues refunds if a book is found.
- Maintains bulletin boards, seasonal displays in media manner.
- Participates in lunch, recess and dismissal duties as assigned by principal.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Assists with the transportation needs of students, including walking them to and from the bus, supervising students on the way to and from the bus, supervising loading and unloading of buses, arranging for the transportation needs of students.
