Element Resources is seeking a Health and Safety Supervisor for our Muncie, IN recycling plant. The role focuses on keeping 175 employees healthy and safe through Industrial Hygiene and safety program implementation.

You will lead risk assessments, training, and routine plant inspections to reduce incidents and injuries, while supervising a team of hourly staff and maintaining high compliance with regulations.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Industrial Safety or related field preferred; an Associates degree will be considered.
  • 3-5 years industrial safety experience preferred but not required.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations.
  • Knowledge of proper protocol for exposure monitoring.
  • Proficient with MS Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook, and Word).

Responsibilities

  • Play a key role in implementing an EHS Management System (EHSMS) with focus on risk reduction.
  • Ensure employees are trained and performing work activities correctly.
  • Conduct routine inspections to measure safety and reduce incidents.
  • Supervise 9 hourly employees in hygiene/laundry services.
  • Identify, communicate, and track daily safety topics and toolbox talks.

Overview

Element Resources is seeking a Health and Safety Supervisor for our Muncie, IN recycling plant. The Health and Safety Supervisor is focused on one of our key priorities – keeping the facilities’ 175 employees healthy and safe. Your education and experience will be put to use across all aspects of Safety and Industrial Hygiene as we seek to minimize environmental factors or stresses that may cause sickness, impaired health and well-being, or significant discomfort among workers.

Performance Objectives
  • Play a key role in implementing an EHS Management System (EHSMS). The EHSMS places a heavy emphasis on risk and risk reduction. You’ll also work with all plant employees to launch our first formal risk assessment process.

  • You will ensure employees are trained and performing work activities correctly.

  • Conduct routine inspections. You cannot improve what doesn’t get measured. You walk the plant floor a minimum of 4 hours per week monitoring activities to ensure the reduction of incidents and injuries by working to modify behaviors to reduce at risk conditions and behaviors.

  • The HS Supervisor will directly supervise 9 hourly employees in day-to-day hygiene/laundry services

  • Will identify, communicate, and track the daily safety topics/toolbox talks.

Responsibilities
  • You have likely done similar work in a manufacturing, heavy industrial and or chemical environment. Or, you might be a recent graduate with a degree in Industrial Hygiene.

  • You have the highest ethical standards and commit to helping us maintain strict compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

  • You know that teamwork is key to success and have demonstrated examples where you either led or played an important role.

  • You know that work is a verb – you will be working through the performance objectives, focusing each day on helping us continuously improve performance.

  • Strong computer skills, including knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, Excel and database software, have helped you track, analyze, form conclusions and communicate an impactful message.

Qualifications
  • A Bachelors degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Industrial Safety or related field preferred. Will also consider Associates degree.

  • Prefer 3-5 years industrial safety experience, but NOT required

  • Working knowledge of OSHA and EPA Regulations.

  • Knowledge of proper protocol for exposure monitoring.

  • Proficient with MS Office Products (Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook, and Word)

About the work environment
  • You must be able to work inside or outside the plant environment and in all climate conditions. You may occasionally be exposed to lead, fume, noise, dirt, hazards, chemicals, heat and cold.

  • You must be able to see, hear and speak; able to sit, stand for at least two hours at a time, sit, bend, crawl, squat, kneel and climb able to use both arms and hands to use a computer and peripherals and lift 40 pounds from floor level, able to wear respirator and other personal protective equipment (PPE) as required, able to climb stairs.

  • Travel may be required for training and to other company sanctioned events.
