Job summary

Regina High School in Michigan is seeking a Head Varsity Basketball Coach to lead the basketball program and supervise all teams. The coach will report to the Athletic Director and align with the Catholic high school league guidelines.

The role involves planning practices, coordinating with assistants, and promoting student-athlete growth, sportsmanship, and community engagement while adhering to MHSAA & CHSL rules and the school mission.

Qualifications

• Competitive coaching experience preferred but not required.
• Strong understanding of the technical aspects of basketball.
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
• Must complete Protecting God’s Children through the Archdiocese of Detroit, if not having completed already.
• Must submit to a new background check.
• Must have CPR certification or obtain one.
• Follow coaching requirements set by MHSAA & CHSL.

Responsibilities

• Has full responsibility for the overall supervision and development of the basketball program, including any sub-varsity teams.
• In charge of assignments and duties of any assistant coaches, including subvarsity coaches.
• Planning and implementing team activities, tryouts, practices, game plans, summer camps and off-season workouts.
• Teaches student-athletes safe and fundamental techniques of the sport throughout the season.
• Maintains communication with athletes, parents, assistant coaches, and Regina Administration.
• Collaborates with the Athletic Director on uniforms, equipment, scheduling and supplies.
• Oversees maintenance, safety and cleanliness of uniforms, equipment, supplies and the facility.
• Promotes growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect and good sportsmanship.
• Performs other related duties as required

Position Description:

Head Varsity Basketball Coach

Reports directly to the Regina Athletic Director and has the responsibility for all athletes in the Regina Basketball Program. The coach will be required to follow the procedures of the high school’s athletic program, as well as those of the Catholic High School League and the Michigan High School Athletic Association.

Responsibilities include:

• Has the full responsibility for the overall supervision and development of the basketball program, including any sub-varsity teams
• In charge of assignments and duties of any assistant coaches, including subvarsity coaches
• Planning and implementing team activities, tryouts, practices, game plans, summer camps and off-season workouts
• Teaches student-athletes safe and fundamental techniques of the sport throughout the season
• Maintains sufficient communication with athletes, parents, asst. coaches, and Regina Administration
• Works in collaboration and cooperation with the Athletic Director recommending the purchase of uniforms, equipment, scheduling and supplies
• Helps oversee maintenance, safety and cleanliness of uniforms, equipment, supplies and the facility
• Promotes individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect and good sportsmanship throughout the program
• Performs other related duties as required
