Job summary

The Y in Central Maryland is seeking a Substitute Teacher for Head Start to support classroom operations and help ensure the health, welfare, and safety of children in our program.

You will collaborate with the classroom teacher at various Y Head Start locations, focusing on fostering social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and creative development for economically disadvantaged children to prepare them for school success.

Qualifications

• Interest in the well-being and education of young children.
• Prior early childhood experience (infant and toddler).
• Ability to clearly communicate and listen to children, parents/guardians, members, and other Y associates.
• 90 Hour Child Care Certificate or AA in Early Childhood Education.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the classroom teacher to ensure successful operation of a Head Start classroom.
• Work at various locations throughout the Y’s Head Start areas of operation as needed.
• Ensure health, welfare, and safety of the children in the program.

As a Y Substitute Teacher for Head Start, you will work collaboratively with the classroom teacher to ensure successful operation of a classroom. You will be called upon when needed and will be asked to work at various locations throughout the Y’s Head Start areas of operation. You’ll be responsible for ensuring the health, welfare, and safety of the children in the program. You will contribute to the creation of an environment which fosters the social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and creative development of each child in your care. As a Y Substitute Teacher for Head Start, you’ll contribute to the Y and to the broader community we serve by working with our littlest participants who are economically disadvantaged and help them prepare for success in school and life.
