West Central Community Action in Council Bluffs is seeking a Lead Preschool Teacher for one of our Head Start classrooms. You will create and manage a warm, engaging learning environment and lead daily educational activities in line with Head Start standards.

The ideal candidate holds an AA/AS in Child Development or Early Childhood Education (BA/BS preferred) and has classroom experience; must maintain records, recruit and supervise volunteers, and promote strong family engagement.

Qualifications

• AA/AS in Child Development or Early Childhood Education with 1 year classroom experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Education is preferred.
• Valid driver's license and auto insurance are required.
• Advocate and recruit for WCCA Programs including Head Start.
• Maintain accurate attendance, nutrition, in-kind and other required records.

LEAD PRESCHOOL TEACHER

HEAD START CLASSROOM

West Central Community Action is seeking a Lead Preschool Teacher for one of our Council Bluffs Head Start classrooms.

The Head Start Teacher creates and manages an attractive, warm and challenging learning environment for preschool children. The Head Start Teacher directs the daily educational activities, coordinates and approves all child activities in the assigned Head Start center. The Head Start Teacher will incorporate appropriate early intervention, learning and care activities meeting the needs of the group as well as those of individual children and families while providing and maintaining a safe environment. The following tasks will be accomplished in accordance with the written Head Start Program Performance Standards, Head Start Policies and Procedures, and state licensing codes.

Educational Requirements

• AA/AS in Child Development/Early Childhood Education and 1-year experience as a member of a classroom team.
• Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Education, is preferred.

Job Requirements

• Current and valid auto insurance, along with a current and valid driver's license are required for this position.
• Ideal candidate should be an advocate and recruit for all (WCCA) Programs including Head Start and its clientele.
• Maintain accurate attendance, nutrition, in-kind and other required records & reports.
• Must be able to follow the written Code of Conduct, Head Start Performance Standards, Head Start Policies & Procedures, and WCCA Policies at all times.
• Report suspected abuse to DHHS when there is reasonable cause for suspecting that a child is a victim of child abuse.
• Attend all meetings concerning children in the classroom as directed.
• Recruit, train and supervise volunteers in the Head Start classroom.
• Create and implement a daily classroom schedule following the guidance within Creative Curriculum and PBIS.
• Create and implement developmentally appropriate daily lesson plans by utilizing Teacher Strategies GOLD data, screenings, IEP's, caregiver goals and individual children's needs.
• Create and maintain positive family relationships by providing open, and consistent, and respectful communication.
• Complete Behavior Incident Reports (BIR's) as needed when children exhibiting challenging behaviors.
• Complete other duties as listed in complete job description.
