Job summary

South Plains Community Action Association in Lubbock, TX, is seeking a Head Start Nutrition Specialist to support quality nutrition services for eligible children and families. You will assist in planning menus, train cooks, and help ensure compliance with CACFP and Head Start standards.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree preferred; two years' experience may substitute for one year of college with approval.
• Certified Food Manager Certification required; food safety knowledge essential.
• Sanitation, storage, preparation and disposal of food must be understood.
• Computer skills preferred for reporting and scheduling tasks.
• Available for some nights and weekend work; reliable self-transportation required.
• Must pass drug/alcohol tests and routine criminal history checks; TB tests as required.
• Valid Texas driver’s license and MVR checks may be required; travel within region possible.

Job description

This position entails mainly specific tasks that are technical and diverse in nature and requires the capacity for judgment and the ability to work with others to accomplish program goals and objectives and integration of program activities to achieve comprehensive program services for eligible children and families. Regular work hours are 8 am to 5 pm, however extended hours may be required. SPCAA staff must be able to adapt to flexible work schedules as established by management. JOB TITLE SUMMARY Head Start is committed to establishing a leaming environment in which children, parents, and staff can teach and leam from one another. To accomplish this goal, staff must display sensitivity to and knowledge of the community's cultural differences and issues. All Head Start shall agree to abide by the program's standards of conduct introduced during pre-service and/or orientation. Employee orientation, pre-service and in-service training are provided in order to assist staff and volunteers in acquiring or increasing the knowledge and skills needed to fulfill their job responsibilities. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: • Assists in the provision of quality Nutrition services that meet or exceed Head Start Performance Standards. The Head Start Act, ongoing guidance from the Office of Head Start, USDA, and Child Care Regulations, by developing and implementing policies and procedures. • Assist and train cooks in planning menu to incur food from each food group and provide one-on-one training for new cooks. to include kitchen set-up, menu changes, placing of food orders and inventory. • Maintain and submit accurate and timely reports and data to the CACFP program OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES OR JOB DUTTIES • Submit timesheets accurately and timely · Ensure any on-the-job accidents are reported immediately and followed-up with appropriate forms. Two years' experience in job field may be substituted for one year of college if approved by the Executive Director. • Certified Food Manager Certification required (Food Techs not certified will be scheduled for training within one month of hire) • Knowledge of food service requirements, including sanitation, storage, preparation, and disposal. • Computer skills preferred • Available for some nights and weekend work • Must be willing to take and pass a drug/alcohol test and comply with the \"Drug Free\": Agency Policy · Must be able to pass regular criminal history checks. • Must submit to TB tests as required. • Must possess ability to provide reliable self-transportation capable of regional travel. Must possess and maintain valid Texas motor vehicle operator's permit of appropriate classification and endorsement as required. Must agree to maintain a satisfactory MVR and minimum requirement of insurability as required by law. MVR background checks may be conducted by the agency. • Must comply with the Health Requirements and Preventative Health Practices procedure.
