Job summary

Hill Country Community Action Association, Inc. seeks a Head Start Teacher Assistant (10.5 months) to support classroom learning, supervise children, and assist with lesson plans and daily activities.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, experience with preschool children, and a commitment to safety and developmentally appropriate practices. CPR/First Aid are required, with CDA pursuit after 90 days.

Qualifications

• Minimum: High School Diploma or GED.
• Some experience and ability to work with pre-school children.
• Must have CPR and First Aid certifications.
• Must have a valid Class C driver's license and reliable vehicle with current liability insurance.
• Head Start physical screening within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Develop, write, and conduct a planned lesson at least once a month.
• Prepare and conduct at least one center activity daily.
• Maintain a calm classroom aligned with early learning standards; avoid physical punishment.
• Ensure routines are prompt, hygienic, and developmentally appropriate.
• Assist with meals and model family-style dining; sit with children at meals.
• Ensure child safety through supervision and proper equipment maintenance.
• Work as part of a team to maintain curriculum continuity and support diverse learners.
• Complete Individual Development Plans and maintain records for enrolled children.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings; pursue CDA credential after 90-day probation.
