Job summary

The Stanislaus County Department of Workforce Development is seeking dedicated individuals to assist in planning and implementing suitable learning experiences for children. Responsibilities include facilitating positive relationships, observing child development, and maintaining children's health. Candidates must be high school graduates with an Associate Teacher Permit and preferably have an Associate Degree in Child Development. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist in planning and implementing suitable learning experiences for children.
  • Help children develop positive relationships with peers and adults.
  • Assist in the observation and recording of child development and progress.
  • Supervises and/or participates in playground activities.
  • Introduces new foods and reinforces proper eating habits.
  • Maintains awareness of and care for daily child health needs and refers action as needed.
  • Operates equipment and machines necessary to program operation.
  • Does position‑related clerical tasks, e.g. attendance reports, lunch counts, etc.
  • Functions as an appropriate, positive role model.
  • Attends appropriate staff meetings and in‑service training.
  • Assists children, teachers and/or parents and community members with communication situations resulting from a limited knowledge of English or Spanish.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Knowledge of: Child growth and developmental principles.
Ability to:
  • Work effectively with children and parents, carry out oral and written directions, respect the confidentiality of center‑related incidents and information, and communicate intent/philosophy of program to families in the community.
  • Handle stress from daily instruction and care of young children.
  • Operate necessary program equipment.
  • Maintain a positive attitude.
  • Sustain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Bilingual and/or bilingual ability desirable.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out essential job functions. Persons performing service in this position classification will exert 10 to 20 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. This type of work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve running, walking or standing for brief periods. Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far visual acuity, depth perception providing oral information, manual dexterity to operate business‑related equipment, and handling and working with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable a person with a disability to perform the essential functions of the job.

EDUCATION:
  • High School Graduate
  • Minimum of a valid Associate Teacher Permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing
  • Associate Degree in Child Development or related field preferred
  • Experience: One year paid experience working with young children.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
  • Fingerprint clearance required
  • TB clearance required
