Job summary

ABC News Studios in New York City is seeking a Head Carpenter to join our team. The ideal candidate will bring strong knowledge of stage operations, live broadcast environments, and the ability to lead and coordinate union stagehand crews for GMA at the 7 Hudson Square facility.

Role involves constructing, setting up, maintaining, and tearing down scenic and lighting elements; coordinating with art directors, designers, and engineers; and ensuring safety standards are followed in a fast-paced

Qualifications

• 3+ years as stagehand or in live broadcast/theatre/studio production.
• Strong knowledge of scenic, lighting, rigging, and prop handling.
• Leadership skills coordinating or supervising union labor.
• Ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
• Flexibility for early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Advanced carpentry skills.

Responsibilities

• Construct, set up, maintain, and tear down scenic, lighting, and prop elements for live/recorded programs.
• Collaborate with art directors, designers, and engineers to integrate set and lighting.
• Liaise between Studio Operations, Facilities, and Local 1 to uphold safety standards.
• Support installation and operation of scenic systems and lighting grids.
• Keep a clean, safe work environment and follow safety policies.
