Job summary

Kanawha County Public Schools Sissonville Middle in Charleston, WV is seeking a Head Softball Coach for the 2026-2027 school year. Candidates must have WV teaching certification or WVDE permit or substitute permit, a high school diploma or GED, and WVSSAC certification.

Primary duties include organizing coaching staff, developing relationships with players, attending league and WVSSAC meetings, managing practice plans, and ensuring good conduct during games and practices.

• Maintains appropriate conduct during practices and games
• Attends league, conference and WVSSAC meetings
• Participates in activities that foster growth and development
• Motivates staff and players toward goals
• Commands respect by example in appearance, manners, behavior and language
• Develops high caliber instruction and teaches fundamental skills
• Handles athletic injuries
• Cares for equipment
• Supervises participants and disciplines team appropriately
• Designs practice sessions and preseason planning
• Supervises managers and other staff
• Manages budget and follows purchasing procedures
• Initiates game organizational skills
• Follows WVSSAC policies and end-of-season procedures
• Completes WVSSAC Training & Certification Program and Kanawha County Schools Staff Development Training on Concussions

Complete WVSSAC Training & Certification Program and take KCS Staff Development Training on Concussions

Complete WVSSAC Training and Certification Program Estimated Cost: $ 250.00

Requirements for Certified Teachers

NewTEACHERSthat have been hired after July 1, 2012 who apply to coach on the secondary level (grades 6-12) must have completed the three hour training session provided by Kanawha County Schools and completethe On-line Concussion Awareness Course throughthe KCS Staff Development Site

The training courses will be taught throughout the year.

Cost of the course will be $15.00

This requirement will allow new teachers hired after July 1, 2012 by Kanawha County Schools to be able to coach on the first day of practice of each specified sport identified
