Job summary

Clarendon College is seeking a Coach who reports to the Athletic Director (and indirectly to the President) to lead athletic programs. The role emphasizes high academic and athletic standards, role modeling ethical behavior, and supporting student-athletes both on and off the field.

The Coach must hold a State of Texas Commercial Driver’s License and maintain a DOT Physical Exam on file if travel outside the state is involved.

  • Set a high standard in academics, integrity, professional competence and ethics.
  • Recruit student athletes for assigned sports and retain current students.
  • Field a competitive team within institutional policies and NJCAA rules.
  • Assist student athletes with academic counseling, advising and registration.
  • Develop strategies for competition in sports.
  • Fulfill contractual obligations and give notice when resigning.
  • Conduct conditioning sessions for student athletes.
  • Coach the team during competition.
  • Supervise practices and competitions, including away games.
  • Schedule team activities and develop a competition schedule.
  • Arrange officials for sporting events.
  • Arrange team travel, accommodations and meals.
  • Coordinate visiting teams and officials as needed.
  • Supervise maintenance of playing areas or fields.
  • Manage athletic equipment; inventory and order supplies.
  • Participate in program and college meetings; budgets and equipment input.
  • Use department funds effectively.
  • Manage scholarship awards in sport.
  • Report and pre-approve fundraising with Athletic Director and President.
  • Maintain stats per NJCAA guidelines.
  • Serve on standing and ad hoc committees as assigned.
  • Support college activities and events through attendance and participation.
  • Comply with college policies and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position
Description

The Coach at Clarendon College reports directly to the Athletic Director and indirectly to the President. The Coach position carries out all of the duties and responsibilities incumbent upon all instructional personnel while performing the coaching function as it relates to the sport assigned. The Coach is expected and required to encourage and promote high academic and athletic standards and to build excellence in the classroom and on the playing field or court. The Coach is required to have a State of Texas Commercial Driver’s License and a DOT Physical Exam on file if traveling out of state.

  • Set a high standard in academic and scholarly excellence, personal integrity, professional competence, and professional ethics. Work to enrich the emotional well-being of the student-athlete through proper role modeling and the demonstration of high ethical standards and behavior.
  • Recruit student athletes for his or her assigned sport(s); recruit student athletes who possess individual traits indicating good character and personal goals reflecting a desire for academic and athletic success. Work individually and collaboratively with others to recruit new students and work to retain current students.
  • Field a team that will be as competitive as possible within the guidelines set by institutional policies and rules and legal boundaries prescribe by the Western Junior College Athletic Conference and the National Junior College Athletic Association.
  • Assist student athletes in his or her sport(s) with academic counseling. Assist in advising and registration, as assigned.
  • Develop strategies for competition in his or her sport(s)
  • Fulfill all the contractual obligations for the period of time agreed and give the institution reasonable notice when resigning.
  • Conduct physical conditioning sessions and practices for student athletes who are members of the intercollegiate sport activity.
  • Coach the team during competition.
  • Supervise all team practices, competition activities, and student athletes, including student athletes during away games.
  • Schedule team activities including developing a competition schedule.
  • Arrange for officials for sporting events.
  • Arrange for team travel, accommodations, and meals.
  • Make arrangement for visiting teams and officials/umpires as needed.
  • Supervise maintenance of playing area or field.
  • Manage and care for athletic equipment. Inventory and order equipment and supply as authorized by the Athletic Director.
  • Participate in program are division and college faculty meetings, provide input on textbook adoption, program planning and evaluation, budgets, and the selection of supplies and equipment.
  • Use the funds of the institution allocated to the budget of the department or a special project in effective and efficient manner.
  • Manage scholarship awards in his or her sport(s)
  • Report, communicate, and receive pre-approval for any or all fund-raising activities from the Athletic Director and the President. Fund- raising activities are to be handled in proper accordance with Clarendon College and NJCAA policies.
  • Maintain stats in accordance with NJCAA Region 5 and NJCAA.
  • Work on standing and ad hoc committees of the College, as assigned.
  • Support College activities and special events through attendance and/or participation, including advising of a campus club(s) team, and /or other activities.
  • Comply with all college policies, rules and regulations.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director and/or President.
