Head of Secondary School

The International School of Texas is conducting a search for an administrative, academic, and cultural leader to serve as Secondary School Head (Grades 6 - 12) beginning in August 2026 or August 2027. The Head of Secondary School reports to the Head of School and is a member of the Senior Leadership Team. The Secondary School has around 70 students as part of a 220 student, PK-12 population.

The Division Head supervises, evaluates, and develops approximately 10 faculty and staff members and works collaboratively with team leaders, other division heads, and senior administrators to formulate and implement school policy. He or she sets the tone for the division by reflecting high professional standards, exceptional communication skills, and a demonstrated commitment to excellence within and beyond the classroom.

Position Description
  • This is an exempt administrative position that includes occasional evening and weekend responsibilities consistent with school leadership roles.
  • Act as the educational leader of the Secondary School, responsible for its day-to-day operation; to direct the activities of the school instructional and the non-instructional staff and monitor the performance of their duties
  • Function as the chiefarticulator of that division’s programs, expectations, behavioral guidelines, and other information necessary to ensure that all constituencies are fully informed consistent with their individual roles
  • Observe, supervise, and help evaluate faculty in the development and implementation of curriculum
  • Oversee and co‑direct the activities of the department chairs, the sponsors of various student organizations and activities, and faculty committees
  • Make recommendations to the Head of School regarding the hiring, retention, and assignment of faculty
  • Establish programs for the orientation of new teachers and for professional development training of all teachers
  • Conduct regular meetings with faculty
  • Provide for the academic guidance of students; maintain complete academic records on all students; oversee the grading and the reporting of standards and methods used by teachers in measuring student achievement
  • Establish guidelines for proper student conduct and dress; maintain student discipline consonant with school policies; monitor students’ adherence to established school rules; maintain accurate records of student attendance and citizenship.
  • Be a visible presence in all areas of the school; work toward a resolution of all problems – both routine and unique – as they arise; keep the Head of School informed of the general programs, activities, and problems of the school
  • Assist in the admission process for the testing, interviewing, and evaluating of applicants for enrollment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School
Requirements

This position requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree with a master’s degree preferred. Three to five years’ experience as a division head or school principal is needed. Additional years of teaching will be considered in the cumulative qualifications.

Candidates must have the energy, decisiveness, sense of humor, and organizational and interpersonal skills for working with a talented faculty, dynamic students, and dedicated parents. The Secondary School Head must be truthful, positive, and purposeful in communicating with others; flexible and adaptable in dealing with change; effective in handling multiple concurrent tasks; and comfortable and effective working in an environment with significant complexity. He or she must be able to maintain confidentiality and security of information and be willing to hold self and others accountable to accomplish results.
