Job summary

Cypress-Fairbanks ISD in Houston, TX seeks an experienced Orchestra Director to lead and grow its school string program. The candidate will recruit students, teach string pedagogy, and prepare ensembles for UIL and TMEA events.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree and a valid secondary music teaching certificate, plus knowledge of UIL/TMEA rules and the ability to mentor staff. Collaboration with Fine Arts and booster clubs is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college.
• Valid teaching certificate for secondary music.
• Experience in string pedagogy and orchestra.
• Knowledge of TMEA and UIL rules and procedures.
• Head Director: build and sustain a large public school orchestra.
• Head Director: 3+ years as secondary public school director preferred.

Responsibilities

• Recruit and retain students in the orchestra program.
• Teach appropriate instrument pedagogy and ensemble skills for student success when performing, including at UIL evaluations.
• Prepare individual students for success at individual auditions and competitions, including UIL and TMEA competitions.
• Collaborate with building Fine Arts staff and vertical staff.
• Maintain emotional control under stress.
• Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Work frequent prolonged and irregular hours.
• Collaborate in preparation of Non-Varsity and Varsity Ensembles for successful performances and competitions.
• Head Directors will be expected to mentor and train assistant director(s) when appropriate.
• Head Directors will be expected to manage the budget, fundraising, private lesson program, library, inventory, and instrumentation of program (where applicable).
• Head Directors will be expected to work with the booster club to implement approved goals (when applicable).
• Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.
