The University of Michigan Law Library seeks an Assistant Director for Research Services to lead the Library's reference and faculty research programs. As a member of the Law Library Management Team, you will participate in strategic planning, staffing decisions, and cross-unit coordination to meet research needs of students, faculty and staff.

The role emphasizes supervision, policy development, and adoption of new technologies to enhance access to legal information and instructional services.

Qualifikationen

• J.D. from ABA-accredited law school.
• Master's degree from an ALA-accredited school of information or library science.
• At least 5 years of experience as a reference or faculty services librarian in an academic law library.
• Experience supervising librarians and professional staff.
• Proven ability to work with other decision-makers.
• Broad knowledge of legal and non-legal information sources and research methods.
• Thorough knowledge of legal systems.
• Teaching experience.
• Ability to work evenings and weekends at the reference desk on a rotating basis.

Aufgaben

• Supervises the Research Services Unit, including full-time staff and librarians.
• Hires, trains, evaluates and oversees unit staff; sets schedules.
• Directs and coordinates unit work and policies; collaborates with other units.
• Keeps up with new technologies and trends in legal information services.
• Oversees reference and information services, including management of the Information Desk.
• Teaches Advanced Legal Research or ensures teaching by librarians.
• Participates in law library committees and strategic planning.
• Provides outreach and public relations for library services and clinics.
